I'd like to go DT in round 2 and RB in round 3. Then go with another corner in 4 so that they can actually try to play Jones at FS. Lots of good corners in the 4th that may just need to be coached up.

Good pick. I'm sure Dallas will address the defensive line throughout the remainder of the draft.

Best Player Available...regardless of position.

Malcolm Brown doesn't fix the pass rush. In fact he doesn't make it any better than him not being here.

He could have pushed the pocket on those quick throws which make QBs go off their spot initially. The 1-legged QB game is all you need to see for the glaring hole at DT. Rodgers was staying in the center of the pocket the whole time because the DTs got ZERO push.

I skipped reading pages 3 and 4 on this topic but.... if anyone has positive game film on Byron Jones, let me know... I just watched two game films
worth of all defensive plays for UConn and didn't see anything great... and don't try to tell me the gift ints are great plays... I saw a guy that can't get
off a WR block to save his life... I also saw a guy that stands around tackles but doesn't engage in any tackles.... Heck, NFL Network showed game film
of every player BUT Byron Jones tonight.

His game tape is boring.

Because teams didn't throw at him.

And when they did: "His 26.3 quarterback rating against was the second best in the FBS."

Jerry said if Claiborne comes back healthy Jones will play FS. So bye Wilcox?

Not necessarily. Church could play nickel LB with Sean Lee. It would be interesting to see how that would play out with Byron Jones and Wilcox as the safeties, Sean Lee and Church as the linebackers. Greg Hardy and Crawford at DT, and Lawrence or Flowers/Orchard/other draft pick at DE.

I watched game film against East Carolina, South Florida and Boise State.... he did not look like a 1st round talent in either game...
I hope I'm wrong... I want to be wrong... but he looks soft... and, at least in the games I watched, the 26.3 QB rating spoke more
about the QB's than it did of Jones.

I guess one could say we whiffed on Mo and Carr, so here's hoping that with Byron the third time is the charm.

Carr was a gem in the playoffs. When it mattered most , he contained megatron and shut down nelson. Kudos for carr stepping up in the big games. Moore and scandrick let us down.

Wow, he can already cover the mega-star WR's? I feel better now

Not saying he will not be able to but way to early.

I didn't say he could cover Megatron, I said we needed a big WR to play against guys like that. Can Jones cover Megatron today? No. Can Jones in a half season or full season of experience hold Megatron to less than 329 yards like that 2013 game?

Yeah, I think so.

Pull up the game tape of Dallas playing Detroit on October 27, 2013. Megatron caught 14 passes for 329 because we didn't have a CB with any size that could cover a big WR. Brandon Carr had PTSD after that game for several weeks and it visibly affected his confidence.
Dallas filled its biggest defensive need a month ago when it signed Greg Hardy. Jones may not start right away, but when he does he solves our second biggest defensive need by giving the team a big CB who can cover the big WRs in the NFL.

Agree, it's about time we get a big, and hopefully physical CB.
I always hated we didn't have a big CB.

Brandon Carr 6' 0 209
Byron Jones 6' 1" 199

At some point we were going to have to sign or draft anther CB no matter what Carr and Claiborne did. Can't let previous mistakes hold us back.

welcome to CZ, where you have to get the right opinion, or get the broom, but mainly both , one for not agreeing and two for using your brain to form your own opinion. Nither is encouraged.
