He really is a terrific player. He will be able to help that secondary in a number of ways. I think Marinelli has been wanting a tall, athletic, rangy guy to use in the secondary.

He is smart as hell too... a must after the team's experiences with Claiborne.

He is also an extremely high character guy. Check out these quotes from Brugler's guide:

…ideal character, on and off the field, with a genuine love for football – film junkie and pushes himself

...senior captain with low-key leadership traits…

He looks the part and is a well-spoken individual with impressive intangibles, drawing praise from his coaching staff – served an internship at the U.S. Capitol during the summer of 2014.

Jones is unpolished in areas and needs to be more efficient with his length, but his combination of size, smarts and God-given athleticism is what NFL teams seek at the position, along with mature and motivated character – projects best as a press corner with a mid-to-late first round grade.

It was a good start but that did not fill the biggest defensive need for our team. The pass rush isn't fixed.

I think we draft a DE in the 3rd like Orchard. I agree the pass rush isn't fixed, but Hardy should only get a couple of games in his suspension and DLaw will be dramatically better. Plus I really think the DT rotation will be vastly improved from the development of the young guys (and Josh Brent getting back in shape).

Carr was a gem in the playoffs. When it mattered most , he contained megatron and shut down nelson. Kudos for carr stepping up in the big games. Moore and scandrick let us down.

I think the plan has always been to bring Carr back at a reduced salary. Drafting Jones means the Cowboys have even more leverage, they probably gained a couple of million dollars in cap space with this pick in how much they can get Carr to take off his current contract.

The pamphlets are already falling from their planes.

Let me guess. Everybody's a big Bryon Jones fan now, eh?

You had Jones ranked 27th and we took him at 27, can't expect Dallas' board to completely match your own, so while you may have had 7 players ranked significantly higher than Jones, Dallas may not have liked any of those 7 or at least not as much as Jones.

Brandon Carr 6' 0 209
Byron Jones 6' 1" 199

Carr is a good #2 when he is on his game but he doesn't play bigger WRs that well. Also measurables don't always tell the story, Tyron Smith is the smallest guy on our OL but plays with more power than most OTs that are 40 pounds heavier.

Tyron Smith is 6'5" and 312 lbs. How is he the smallest guy on our OL?

Looks like The usuals are back at it.

And had Dallas reached or traded up we all know they'd take exception to that as well.

Personally I know nothing about any of these players and I'm not gonna grade this or any pick off what I find on YouTube, but I am hopeful Dallas found a quality starter for years to come.

Jerry said if Claiborne comes back healthy Jones will play FS. So bye Wilcox?

If he can play safety then goodbye Matt Moore if his hamstrings don't get healthy.

O wait sorry, force of habit I guess

Everything I've read says we got one of the top 4 CBs and the one with potentially the highest ceiling. I will admit I haven't done enough tape work to be able to draw a firm opinion on a player from game footage. There's a very reasonable chance that the Cowboys had him rated as a 1st round talent and got him without giving up anything.

they say this every year. I think we all know to slam on the brakes and let the field give us the story of the player.

I skipped reading pages 3 and 4 on this topic but.... if anyone has positive game film on Byron Jones, let me know... I just watched two game films
worth of all defensive plays for UConn and didn't see anything great... and don't try to tell me the gift ints are great plays... I saw a guy that can't get
off a WR block to save his life... I also saw a guy that stands around tackles but doesn't engage in any tackles.... Heck, NFL Network showed game film
of every player BUT Byron Jones tonight.

Watch those videos again with a more open mind. What I saw was a CB who is really darn good at sticking with his WR, gets his head turned around, good instincts, solid tackler, very smart (knows his assignments pat, doesn't get confused). He can work on getting off blocks better, run support, and there were a couple of slants he was beat on (but not by much). This was the first time I watched any videos on him, and he actually looked better than what I expected!

Yeah, but take Revis and Sherman off those units, and then what do you really have?
