Stud lineman aren’t easy to find. No way I’m getting rid of him at this point, especially given how cheap we can keep him. And I’m not breaking up what we are starting to develop along the DL. Him, Tank, Collins and Taco are a heck of a start

I was listening to Spags and Broaddus a few minutes ago. Broaddus said he "had a feeling" the Cowboys would have no problem letting D. Irving go if another team offered a second round pick. I don't always agree with him but have to acknowledge he has obvious connections in the building. I was surprised by this as I have only heard the Cowboys were counting on him to be a big part of this defense moving forward. I personally want to keep him as I don't want to see the Nick Hadens of this world on this roster anymore. Stephen Jones said recently the D line was a high priority going into the draft. I wonder if there is some negative behind the scenes stuff regarding Irving we don't know?
That makes zero sense. They harp on getting a "War Daddy" then let him go? There had better be a better reason than preserving cap space. Someone please name the first rounder that made the same impact as David Irving in the same or close to the same amount of plays?

David Irving is a beast who can play any position on the DL. Was probably the best DLman in the NFL for a quarter of the season.

You think Irving would be a hypothetical, top ten pick today. I don't think any team would give a 2nd rd pick for a suspended, concussed, and one year remaining under contract. And we watch the same games. That is what makes discussing football so interesting.

Let me know what responses you imagine from GMs with a top ten pick in this year's draft. Hey, GM, how about you trade me your top ten pick in the draft and I will give you Irving. Straight up. What do you say?:lmao:
Jimmy GQ only got the Patriots a 2nd

I would tag Irving at the 1st round tender of 4m and gladly take the first if anyone bit

Why did we let him become a major contributor if there was no intent to resign him? That just leaves gaping holes in the roster.

This personnel management is the opposite of PROACTIVE. Instead we’re REACTIVE, constantly dragging our feet making decisions about 1-2 years after most fans notice the need for that change.

Our front office mentality is like a 40 year old that has been going month to month on an apartment lease for a decade, paying extra each much for meaningless flexibility, rather than signing a cheaper long term lease, or doing research and homework on surrounding neighborhoods and buying property.

Why is he a knucklehead?
His suspension was form a product he was promoting that had a substance the NFL did not approve of. Yes he should have checked with the NFL. But he didn’t. Most would not. It was a mistake anyone could make.
Concussion problems...then all teams should move on from players after a concussion?

Not saying we shouldn’t take the top 50 pick if that is what it comes to, but it could be the 64 pick too.
And it is not that they don’t value the picks. But do you trust this FO would use it wisely?
We could end up losing Irving AND wasting the pick.
is this dude serious?

Irving didn't play in his senior season at Iowa State because he got kicked out of school. He was charged with disorderly conduct, fifth degree theft and criminal mischief in the second degree.

Six months before the incident with the stop sign, Irving was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

Well, yeah. He started the year suspended and then was injured. Good player but a bonehead.

You may not be able to get a player as good as him with a second round pick, but you could package our first and the pick you get for him and draft a top 10 player. You should get an ELITE player in that area.

Broaddus does not get that type of inside info. He is just guessing.

He said numerous times one offseason that Marinelli was going to Tampa the following season. People believed he was getting inside info. He was obviously wrong.

They will have to pay him big money after next season. If someone gives up a 2nd for him, the Cowboys would get the money not spent on Irving AND the pick. It's not a bad deal for the Cowboys. They could use the money on a legit 1tech and still have the pick. Collins natural position is 3tech.

Broaddus is fun to listen to but is largely clueless. Just reading the tea leaves they thinks irving will get suspended again or is a train wreck waiting to happen. I don't need Broaddus to tell me that.

Interesting. I think Irving has maturity issues that may be a negative. He seems to be a bit of a flake.

But he is very talented. And has shown to be a difference maker at times. I would keep him and hope the other stuff eventually goes away.

If you are getting a second rounder for him, it better be a high one. As in top 40.
Have you seen what we do with 2nd rounders? I'm not a fan of this

Considering this franchise pisses away 2nd round picks on injured players or drug addicts year in and year out.........I'm not a fan of this move

In the last 10 years, we have like one second round pick that actually became a legit player for us, Sean Lee..............that's it, nobody else

Even if he did get that kind of inside information, and I don't think he does, he'd be cut off immediately for serving it directly to the public.

I'd let him walk for a second. He's a guy that you'll never be able to give a big deal because of his suspension issues.
If we were to end up with one of Veta Vea , Wilkens or Payne, then I could see it.

Well those have not carried over into his NFL career now have they.
If you are going to use this against him, go to every player that had an incident and use it against them. Lewis?
Who are you Goodell?

This team will never learn. "We are going to build the right way, internally and through the draft." Then let one of the few players they've actually successfully coached up, walk. Is it any wonder this team has been floundering in mediocrity for decades? Idiocy at every level of the front office.

Couldn't agree more. He's a knucklehead, plain and simple. Matter of fact, I'd take that 2nd rounder if it's mid 2nd round or higher. Take it and run.
Agree...I tender him 2nd round..hoping someone bites. I take the pick. I can see a team like Seattle or Cleveland w/ mult 2's..taking that chance.

Would be very surprised if the Cowboys moved on from Irving. He’s had 11 sacks the past two seasons. In his first three games back from suspension this season he had 5 sacks which was the most in the league during that period. He can be very disruptive. The only real knock on him is he seems to disappear but he’s a young developing player who hasn’t reached his ceiling. Our pass rush really improved this season and he was part of the reason. He and DLaw provided a good one-two punch. It took DLaw 4 seasons to make the big jump he did. I certainly wouldn’t want to move on from Irving after only three seasons with the potential he’s shown.
