It appears Cowboys RB Malik Davis is the favorite to be the No. 2 RB behind Tony Pollard

I think Davis is just a fall-forward RB3 type. He is better than 2022 Zeke, but I don't love gameplanning him for 100+ touches.

Izzy Abikanada would have been a shrewd 4th round add. Big time size-speed guy who would hit the hole a lot harder than Davis.

I think they are having to find holes, but you are down as soon as any contact is made.
It’s a lot easier finding holes when the defense isn’t looking to make tackles. You can’t judge how well an RB can shed a tackle in practice. You simply can’t tell much until the games begin and they start tackling.

It's really hard to judge what kind of camp any player is having, but I agree that it's especially hard for backs because they don't allow much real tackling. The media gets caught up in this player or that player and the player disappears during games because the speed of it picks up and it's more physical. Certain aspects of skill stand out more than others in camp because of what's allowed and not allowed.

Davis doesn't have great speed or awe-inspiring cutting ability. What he showed last year was good vision in traffic, enough cutting ability to get to the lane, enough speed to get around the corner and toughness once contact is made. Most of that is not going to show up when the whistle is blown as soon as you are touched.
It takes the eye of coaches to make a good assessment of what kind of camps players are having. A lot of cuts are made by how players perform in practice. You can tell a lot with WRs and especially with kickers. You can tell a lot with QBs. If they’re missing a lot of throws in practice that certainly doesn’t bode well for them. It comes down to preseason games for a lot of players. That’s when you get the best read of what you have. You need live game situations.

Well. Kellen Moore is no longer around to reduce run play opportunities for Davis in a crucial game if Pollard goes down again.

No, Moore continued to use washed up Zeke. Who did nothing but drop an important pass in the redzone and not be able to get the corner on the dump offs from Dak.
Moore had a boss to please. And that boss fetishes Zeke.

And when Jerry brings Zeke back for 2023...Big Mike will be likewise compelled to give Elliott undeserved playing time.

Being in the doghouse for wanting more touches is a minor offense.

Marcus doesn't get it.

Backup running backs don't get merely "a couple of carries". It's all running-back-by-committee now. Given our current roster construction Davis and Deuce would get 40-50% of the carries.
And by general acclamation, Pollard should get *fewer* than the normal carries for a #1.

After a couple of preseason games one of these will be a Cowboy....
  1. Dalvin Cook.
  2. Kareem Hunt
  3. Leonard Fournette
  4. Zeke
if that happens, he will be the Ronald Jones replacement, my money is on Fournette. The LSU connection. We like LSU guys. I think he's a great fit in every way. Wont cost us very much either.
