It appears Cowboys RB Malik Davis is the favorite to be the No. 2 RB behind Tony Pollard

That remains to be seen. If we struggle to pick up a yard or two on critical third and fourth downs and can’t punch it into the endzone from up close, it’s going to lead to big trouble. Would much rather have Zeke than Davis.
I get that zeke is a proven commodity in those situations but Davis has to have more juice than Zeke does at this point.

I know there will be times in games where we’ll all be saying “Zeke would have got that 1st”, or “ he would have picked up that blitz”.

Elliot was a cap casualty and a washed 27 year old. That in of itself surprises the hell out of me. Dorsett at 27 was hitting his stride. As was Barry Sanders.

After a couple of preseason games one of these will be a Cowboy....
  1. Dalvin Cook.
  2. Kareem Hunt
  3. Leonard Fournette
  4. Zeke
They wont budge on Z.Martin money...they wont tbrow money at them either.....unless Polkard goes down

Davis didn’t show much juice with the opportunities he got last season. He wasn’t bad but he wasn’t great either. If he had more juice than Zeke, he would’ve got some snaps against San Francisco in the playoffs when Pollard was injured. This is Davis’s second season so we’ll see how it goes. He’s being given a great opportunity let’s see if he makes the most of it.

I haven't really seen any indication that he's having a great camp. Of course, what we hear is whatever the reporters at camp choose to focus on. There really hasn't been much focus on the RBs, other than Vaughn because he's an abnormality.

I hope you're right Vinman. But I don't think the coaching staff would of held him out ,in such a important game, if he was the best option. Clearly Zeke was not.. Plenty players complain about lack of touches or balls thrown to them
Yes they did.

It’s hard to judge what kind of a camp an RB is having. All they’re doing is handing the ball off to them. You really can’t tell how they’re performing until the tackling starts in games and they’re having to make defenders miss and find holes.

You can't tell much of anything till the games start.

Speaking of Luepke, have you (or anyone else) seen anything about him since camp has started?

I haven’t seen a mention of his name at all.
II saw a few carries with him and a pass protect or two. Didn't get touched on the carries, really looking forward to seeing him in the PS.

It's really hard to judge what kind of camp any player is having, but I agree that it's especially hard for backs because they don't allow much real tackling. The media gets caught up in this player or that player and the player disappears during games because the speed of it picks up and it's more physical. Certain aspects of skill stand out more than others in camp because of what's allowed and not allowed.

Davis doesn't have great speed or awe-inspiring cutting ability. What he showed last year was good vision in traffic, enough cutting ability to get to the lane, enough speed to get around the corner and toughness once contact is made. Most of that is not going to show up when the whistle is blown as soon as you are touched.

Certainly not with RBs. They’re not having to break tackles, stiff arm defenders and find holes.
I think they are having to find holes, but you are down as soon as any contact is made.

I am rooting for Pollard, Davis, Vaughn and Luepke.

I think this is a dynamic backfield that can do it all.
Again, it's probably because I just haven't seen much on him (while I just read something about McKeon showing improvement), but I'm not sure on Luepke right now. I think his spot comes down to whether we keep a fourth TE and McKeon may have the advantage there.
