The DTs were not fine but the LBers were worse. So your expectation is that the DTs don't need to do anything to help the linebackers? You were satisfied last year that the DTs did their job protecting the linebackers? If you were not satisfied with it, then why not?
Your expectation seems to be that the linebackers' responsibility is to capture the shoulder no matter what. This is not how football has ever worked. It is a team game where one group is dependent upon the play of the other.
Capture the shoulder, fill the gap, make the tackle is fundamental LB play. It is exactly how it works, especially in the modern game, because teams do not run the ball unless they have a numbers advantage.
