Its not a bad idea because Jones mentioned it. Its a bad idea because its a bad idea

There is absolutely nothing that says Witten deserves consideration to be an NFL coach. He isnt even coaching in college

I mean, that's why starting him as a position coach or maybe a quality control coach I suppose isn't a bad idea. And how do we know he's not been considered for a college coaching job? He's been a HS coach for 3 years. Given his record, how do we know a college hasn't contacted him? But, starting him as a tight end coach, since he played it, wouldn't be a bad way for him to start.

A better idea would be to get an actual TE coach. Im not interested in adding guys because they are names and then dreaming up reasons why its a good idea

So, firstly, below is his record as a HS coach since taking over in 2021.

https://www.nfl.com/news/11-time-cowboys-pro-bowl-te-jason-witten-coaches-high-school-team-to-state-title#:~:text=Liberty Christian is a kindergarten,26-10 in three seasons.

I think Jason Witten is an intriguing option. Based on a previous thread about Jerry talking about Witten as a potential NFL coach. He's got a good record as a coach in high school. What if we had him as OC?

I think Vrabel, Ben Johnson, or Glenn at HC and Witten at OC would be intriguing options. I, for one, would be intrigued to see it. I think Vrabel at HC, Witten (who knows Dak) at OC, and Bones at ST would be a fascinating coaching room. I could see that room developing a physical team. I would sign up for that actually.
I think Witten spent too much time learning offense under Garrett. It would concern me that he might follow Garrett's ideals, which probably work find on the high school level but have proven to fall short in the pros.

Well, and that's why I think having someone like a Ben Johnson would be helpful at HC. Plus, he typically played with toughness. I think he probably would, especially if under Ben Johnson, coach with more of a Parcells/Campbell style.

Future coaches found to be bad present coaches? It's getting ridiculous on this board daily.

No kidding. Sometimes I miss the old forum lol. That said, this forum is usually fun. Just sucks that it's hard to show any positivity or positive ideas here at the moment lol.

Lol, Google screwed up again. You should be he I hate using speak and text gobbles all my words even after I pre-check them before I send it. They change it afterwards.

Oh lol, fair enough. But yeah, I think Jason Witten would make a great te coach to start with, and then who knows from there?

I want a new coach, a new start up that the league already hasn’t scrutinized. I think Jason would be a great candidate.

Right, and starting him at TE coach would be a first NFL coaching job for him. Maybe we can get someone like a Ben Johnson, Deion, Vrabel, or Lanning (Oregon) as HC?

No. Get someone with experience in the NFL or advanced as a Coordinator to HC in College or Pro. See Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson, and Bill Parcells. Stop hiring people to learn on the job see Garrett, and Moore.

NO!!!!

Enough of bringing in peopel who have not proven at the NFL level their operational capability.

He can come in and be the QC employee for a while and prove he can identify and alert for situational football. Then take on a sub-unit - not TEs - to prove his ability to lead yong players in an area he has little subject matter expertise.

Then go to TEs and show how you can be world class at identifying and coaching your expertise. If you somehow show well then consider a coordinator position. By then he has shown an ability for coaching his subject matter expertise. Coaching an area that is not his subject matter expertise and should be given a chance to coordinate.

Just elevating him just because of HS football success is another example of lay people who over value the experience that is HS football. IMO this is a recipe for disaster. Are the Cowboys not enough of a disaster for fans already?
.....and Jason Witten has been a part of the culture. He was able to come back before Jerry enabled Zeke to come back. No!

Yes, let’s get somebody with experience somebody the league already knows inside out I know Kellen Moore is really screwing up in Philly isn’t he?
