There is 6.8 million dead cap hit for 2022.
Not saving a lot.
He was awful in pursuit.Jaylon isn't slow.
Which is a nice way to say we don’t need a slow, lumbering, top heavy LB who is afraid of contact, has no football sense or situational awareness, and can’t cover.
Ok, total waste is probably too strong of words, so I give you that. But there was certainly somebody else in the draft who we could have gotten in the 2nd round who would have contributed even more than the "ton of tackles" jaylon gave us....believe that!Hes made a ton of tackles for the team.
No denying his stats.
The dead money is less than what they would have paid him next year - so it's a net gain to the cap - not a loss. Was going to count almost 12 million against cap next year.so they take a 6.8 million dead cap hit for their dime/nickel packages???

What's not as surprising is that NO team wanted to trade for him! You would have thought we could have gotten a 5th or 6th or 7th round pick for him. Obviously no team thought that much of him that they would use a draft pick to guarantee his services....what does that say! Also, kind of surprising at how long Dallas was trying to trade him off. From draft all the way to recent times.
Guys on 105.3
It's the nature of a long-term contract: it's about managing risk. The player wants security against things like a career-ending injury, and trades away some salary and flexibility to achieve that. The team gets to lock in the player's services for multiple years and to pay less than they would potentially have to pay in a series of one-year contracts (especially if the player gets better over that time), but they take on risk of the player's performance declining or the player getting injured. Why does Jaylon have so many injury clauses where his money is guaranteed after suffering a major injury? I feel like it should be the other way around where if he suffers a major injury or misses X amount of games his money is not guaranteed and can be cut.

Okay, cool.He was asked to take the injury clause out of his contract, he said no and they released him.
Certainly not worse than being shown the door while your making 9+ mil a year.....what does that say!
Read the thread. It will all make sense then.I personally dont get why they did this. If they were doing this they should have prior to season.
It's all about him getting hurt and next year being guaranteed. The $9M+ salary cap this generates for next year can be spent far more wisely.I'm surprised they took the hit this year and didn't cut him after the season.
