So using PFF as you have here, how has Jeff Heath compare?



BJones PFF- 76.8
Crawford PFF - 83.6
Terence Williams - 58.5
Malik Collins - 46.8
Jeff Heath - 80.8

So by your own criteria Heath isn’t even close to the weakest link and probably grades out as the 4th or 5th best guy on the defense.

Heath had a better rating than Lewis and Awuzie as well. Only Hitchens, Lee, Lawrence and Irving had better grades I think.......and Crawford

That Jeff Heath is a better safety than Byron Jones, and it's close between him and Crawford as far as their respective positions. Taking into account that a pass rusher is always gonna be more valuable. And that he was nowhere near the weakest link as far as starters last year and won't be this year either.


And that Byron Jones is not the 4th best strong safety in the league. For instance, I'd rank Landon Collins better than him whereas the website you mention had him at 17th.

Heath is a fine player. Upgradable sure, but I don't see him on the level of Scott/Dixon/Hamlin(post contract) bad.

If you're basing it strictly off of last year for both Heath and Bjones then it is MUCH closer, ill agree. The two years prior Jones was an above average player, while Heath was a roster bubble player his four years before. Im Still giving the nod towards BJones last year, despite Heath making progress. Heath will never be the cover guy that Jones is, while Heath has made improvements in his tackling, while Byron regressed in that area last year.

See, I think we aren't very good against TE's and haven't been for two years now. Jones was good as a rookie but it feels like since then we've been ripped apart fairly regularly by TE's.

Maybe, but aside from Heath we're talking about a pretty inexperienced group of DB's aren't we? Memory is always going to be biased but I can distinctly remember a lot of finger pointing and blown assignments where Jones looked out of sorts. And I'm sure I could come up with 4 or 5 TD's Byron has been responsible for conceding. Could be just me but I felt like he was too easily caught out on pick plays.

Heath is not a starter and is not a leader. Go ahead up and get Derwin and we can finally have a real safety that we have been longing for. Heath is good rotational and special teams player but that's about it. He is not/will not be better then Woods once Woods adds a few pounds this off season.

I feel like we haven't had a good safety for so long many have accepted mediocre players thinking they were good. But people are so quick to move past Dez -_-

The key to S position is Woods making a second year leap and becoming our "Earl Thomas." If he can add some strength/weight and more recognition from knowing the playbook, we will be fine with some combo of Heath/Frazier at SS and a rook backing up at FS.

I don't hate Jeff Heath. I just don't think he is the best talent wise at that spot either. He is good at certain things and not so good at many things. Doesn't make him a bad guy, he is what he is. Props though for improvement he has done on his game.
