Twitter: Jerry’s continued insanity about the sun at AT&T

I’ve watched several college and HS games at AT&T where those curtains ARE used so the sun is not a factor in games.

I’m hard pressed to think of another sports owner or executive with this kind of stubborn stupidity, who literally cares more about visual aesthetics than winning. It’s maddening.

AND…the multi-million dollar upgrades JJ is paying for aren’t designed to fix this.

Jerry was just waiting for the post-Christmas sales to order this beauty:

The sun works both ways. I don't see how it puts us at a competitive disadvantage. You would think the home team would be smart enough to adapt.
But you never know if a cloud will block the sun for the visitors, or who's going to be facing that direction when it's at its worst, etc. It's a stupid thing to have to deal with.

Watching our players (like Michael Gallup last Sat or Cedric Wilson last Jan in the playoffs) get blinded by the sun trying to catch a football when there are curtains available is just insane. 20th Century Questionnaire: Hey Jerry why is there a crown on the field at Texas Stadium.

Jerry Aka Same Energy: Their QB throws from the Crown and Troy Aikman throws from the Crown!!

I LOVE Jerry Jones!!

Lol at this reasoning. So once we get into the redzone, only one side of the field is viable and everyone knows it? Awesome!!
Again there was a 2 yard by 2 yard square in the corner of the endzone where the sun would effect you and we threw it to that spot!

After being told multiple times by the stadium’s architects when it was being built that it was a fundamentally bad idea to have the field run East-West.
You run it North-n-South and your getting the worse the sun has to offer around noon-ish.
The glass should have been lightly stained, IMO. He can still have that done. Especially with the money he's now about to spend in renovations.

Yeah, that doesn’t tell me anything about the use of curtains. And the link to see what your team is doing is broke.

Ok. There are a number of LEED articles for NFL stadiums that show up with a simple google search. This has become the new thing with stadiums. Will leave the google search for you. Note that AT&T didn’t get the certificate as far as I can tell, but they did however put a goal in place to reduce energy use by 20% annually. Can’t reduce energy without natural lighting. I still believe the reason is purely financial, as architects don’t make blunders due to orientation of the sun (I’m married to one and she lol’d at the thought of this being the owner’s oversight. It may not have even been his call).

Carry on and have a wonderful day.

So, a receiver gets open, and the QB should refuse to throw the ball his way because of the sun?!?!
It didn't have to go to Gallup,Zeke was wide open for a walk in TD..why go to a covered receiver when there was no one around Zeke?

I would like to see that area fixed so that is stops the glare but Texas stadium also had issues with the sun in the eyes of players. No one complained about it I guess that is what winning does. lol

He loves the aesthetics.
It's entirely possible that Jerruh and Charlotte think the curtains would clash with the art Gallery inside, Bob. That's a biggie to them, ya know.

what bothered me more was that Zeke or Pollard was completely open on the right side of the field where the sun was shaded. It was an easy 6 points but obviously Dak didn’t see it. Watch that play again and you’ll see that the RB in the flat had nobody within ten yards of him.
I saw the same thing, but in fairness that is a play Dak had to make an immediate, or even pre snap decision on to throw to the corner of the end zone because if he waited to survey the field Gallup would run out of the end zone before the ball arrived.

When you build a football field running east to west, a contingency for sun glare should be part of the design and implemented. We are talking about this stadium flaw way too much and Jerry considers it a win because he is in the news.

Yeah I would think they would opt out of corner fades when the sun will be directly in the wrs eyes. Maybe it's not realistic, but being our home field, we should be the best at utilizing it to our advantage.
Our GM on down is not that creative or bright. No pun intended.
Could you imagine if we lost that game by 3 points? I think there would be a lot more energy on the subject.

Those stadiums’ fields are built North-South as prescribed by any architect when building a stadium. Those players in Buffalo, KC, Chicago, etc don’t have to stare into direct sunlight because the fields don’t run East-West. It’s a problem we could’ve avoided during construction.
There are sideline (East/West) throws where a receiver could look into the sun, and punt returns and deep passes could also result in a player looking up into the sun.

It should affect both teams, but not once have I seen an opposing player drop a ball because the sun was in their eyes. Unless I'm forgetting. But the stadium has been open for 12 seasons now. All I remember is it biting us in our *****

I believe Crayton's drop was in Texas Stadium. You might be thinking of Miles Austin's drop because of the sun in his eyes, which was actually at AT&T stadium.
Also, I think Wilson had a sun blinding drop in the playoffs against SF last year which negated a first down in SF territory which ended up in a punt on that sequence. Never know what could have happened if we scored on that series.
