Jerry: I'm reluctant to bet it all for just one year

Its after next year that their roster will nose dive because then it will be time to pay the QB and he will have 100% of the leverage.
They'll do what we did and backload his deal. People just assume his cap hit will be massive at the beginning but like Dak, while his AAV might be like $45 million, his first couple year cap hits will be half that most likely. Dak's AAV was $40 million but his first two cap hits where only like $17 million and $19 million.

For any of you hoping for an active offseason.
15:25 mark of the video. Jerry is asked after watching the Rams and Eagles approach to the Super Bowl what is the Cowboys plan. He says he knows how to do what those teams have done but if you miss it's a long way back. He's reluctant to go all in for a year. He thinks long term.

-

As an added bonus you can go back to the 13:25 mark and hear how they didn't mismanage the WR position by trading Cooper for nothing. It was relying too much on Jalen Tolbert that was the mistake. How do you address it this year? "We need Tolbert to come on as a young player".

And lastly back to 17:35 you can hear Jerry's sales pitch to you for 2023 when asked how he gets fans excited for next year.

"Dwell on the fact that we have some of the best personnel in the NFL. Dwell on the fact that you have Dak. Focus on that."

-

And one more gem right after. The yearly man in the mirror talk.

"There's been a lot of change here over the last 25 years the same way there would have been had you changed GMs and Owners. I have to change in my mirror. I want to emphasize that."

And how well as this worked Jerruh? You don't have to go for broke like the Rams did. There is a middle ground.

Jerry is planning to live to 110 so just everyone calm down and sit back in your chairs. We're in this for the long haul. ;)

hey that is the first rule of team building if it didnt work for the first 26 or 27 time in a row u keep doing the same thing
Insanity rules the day!!!!!

This is so friggin dumb. Look at the last 3 Superbowl Champs. They went all in and the won the ULTIMATE prize! The Superbowl.
We are only a few pieces away from a DOMINANT D. A dominant D will not put near as much pressure on Dak. He can ride the bus and relia on a truly dominant D.

The thing is that it isn't "betting it all" for one year. Teams like the Eagles have shown that you can go all in and then be a contender again in a few seasons. It's not like you are forever banished to the bottom of the league once you go all in.

This guy is beyond salvation.

We're not winning another Superbowl until Jerry dies... its just that simple. It may sound harsh, but that's just the reality. No disrespect to him because he did help bring us 3 rings, but his time is up as a successful GM.
We're probably not winning another until Stephen dies.

I wouldnt say so, at least we have been relevant for 2/3 years under Mac . If he manages to get into playoffs next year and advance beyond divisional round, I would even think it is progress.

Compared to teams like , Washington, Houston, Chicago, Zona etc.. Dallas is not laughing stock !
Nobody cares about those teams. They are irrelevant. Being the laughing stock is us actually thinking we're a contender and then self destructing in the playoffs year after year. Other fan bases and the media love it. Meanwhile we add one more year to our ineptitude.

Shoutout to our Director of Player Personnel for not knowing the names of our players. Calling T.Y. Hilton "Hyatt". 12:20 of the video.

We are so, so screwed. At least I am old enough to have experienced the brief 90s dynasty.

To be fair, he has made a few big trades or FA adds in the past... usually, but not only on WRs... (Cooper, Roy Williams, TO, Deion Sanders, Galloway, Brandon Carr....)
It hasn't been like this every year for 27 years some are saying.
He has tried it both ways, just maybe not as often as some would like

When you're back to back 12 win seasons, that's the time. Not just random years of making a splash when the team sucked. Minus Deion the others are just domino effects of poor decisions.. and jersey sales. Rosters with major holes or poor coaching or both. This roster today is good enough. The GMs have to recognize that there is a time. Saying he is hesitant because of past mistakes is ridiculous considering this is his job year round. You don't stop using free agency because you were a complete buffoon 20 years ago.

Here's my other issue with Jerry's statement. It's a bad psychological message to send. I don't think he thought of this, but this could send a message to the team that he doesn't think they're good enough to compete for a championship. This kind of message says "I'm not going all in because you're not Super Bowl-caliber." Want to drive Micah Parsons away? Say that message. If he goes all in, it sends a message to the team that he thinks that they can win it. So, they're bound to be more confident knowing that the FO feels confident in them and is ready to give whatever he can give to help make a SB happen.

This team had won 12 regular season games in each of the last two seasons and had a playoff win on the road. The team is primed, and the defence is lethal. If there's been ANY time for us to go all in in the last 20 years, it's now.

Probably because the last time he tried to do this was when he traded two #1s for Joey Galloway.

Now he has a little more guidance. That era of Jerry was the worst and that's really saying something. All in doesn't mean sell the farm for 1 guy. It means be active and play it smart. But that seems impossible here.

We all know or recognize that JJ's media comments are a mashup of truths, half truths, delusions of grandeur, stream of consciousness and narcissistic pride. They are intended, as several have already pointed out, to keep the Cowboys in the news. You can always count on something from JJ during Super Bowl week if, for no other reason than, to stir the pot.

All that aside, I do enjoy his comments... never fails to give me a chuckle.

I'm not buying any of this... except that Jerry states that "life will move on". Not for Jerry.

LMAO. You think that Stephen ends the chain? Do you not know how many grandkids will be next in line? They have an ironclad trust which will go on for the next 40-50 years. Unless a Jones family member decides to sell in say... 2053. A Jones family member will ALWAYS own Dallas Cowboys, Inc. LLC

Going all in would be mega-mega-mega stooooopid given current situ. I know lots of you are thinking with your hearts, but it makes zero sense.

Dak isn't an elite qb. Zeke is dead. Tyron Smith near the end end.

Truthfully a 1-year reset would be far better if you want a championship in the next few years. Clear the books, go 3-14 and draft a QB. The disappointment is that Jerry does just enough to keep things competitive and interesting, but only half measures. 1-year-rebuild is in order.
Draft a QB this spring. There are a dozen that have promise. If you have your guy go get him in the 3rd round. One more with Dak and hopefully the kid will be ready for 2024.

In capable NO. They can do it…if they want to but it’s not the Cowboys business model. Jones are about maximizing profits not football operations
That's laughable. The Cowboys make over 1B in revenue every year. That's almost double the next team. The Jones boys are soaked in cash and have more than they could ever spend. The Cowboys are up against the salary cap every season which means they are spending the max on player salaries every year. Their profits are NOT coming from money they save on player contracts.

The problem is they haven't spent the time cultivating the front office relationships around the league that allow teams like Philly and SF to trade with ease. They are not familiar with the talent around the league. I would bet a large stack of money that if cornered in a bar, Jerry and Stephen couldn't tell you the starting OL for any other team in our division, let alone the rest of the league. They do none of the work required of a successful GM and it shows. The rarely trade or wheel and deal b/c they know they don't know enough to have the confidence required to pull the trigger.
