As they sang in the Frozen movie ... "Let it Go" sorry all but .. This isn't happening .. The Vikings are not trading Peterson to the Cowboys nor will they release him ... Have to either go with what we have or look elsewhere

Forget draft picks for a minute.

Would you rather invest in a 30 year old AP over our pass rush?

The pass rush we worked so hard to build upon this off-season gets worse next year if we trade for AP. Taking on his salary means either Hardy or Crawford is gone next season. We can't afford everyone.

Personally I'd rather give big $$$ to a 26 year old top 5 DE, and a 25 year old stud 3 tech over a 30 year old running back.

would you give up the first pick in the third round?

why not. I at least want the chance at 2 top 75 players. Anything 3rd and up i wont be totally raging if we used to trade for a vet player that can take us up another level. Just not giving up a chance to pull off a draft like we did with our 1st and 2nd this year.

Because the 1st pick in the 3rd round is only 1 pick after our 2nd rounder if we were to trade for AP.

But if AP is still the unstoppable superstar RB most here believe he still is then a early 3rd is not much to give up. Now I wouldn't trade a early 3rd for a Lamar miller (someone I keep seeing mentioned)

But you said you wouldn't give up your second for AP and all I am trying to do is show you that our second next season is like trading an early third.....I have no idea how Lamar Miller came into this discussion

Ok I'm still not giving up a second. I now see you are going by the trade chart and get your point but I'm still wanting to keep our 1st and 2nd. And Lamar miller came up because I said I'm willing to give up a early 3rd for a vet player that can make an impact. Just clarifying on the level of talent that I felt was worth it.

Great teams stay great precisely because they never sacrifice the future for the present.

It very rarely works. It certainly didn't work for the Vikings in 1989. It didn't work for the Cowboys when they trades batch of top picks for receivers Galloway and Roy Williams.

The way to win championships is not to circle a specific year but to remain highly competitive every year and get the opportunity to go deep into the playoffs There is absolutely the element of luck at that level, a very random and uncontrollable element.

Why do people keep comparing the Peterson situation to Joey Galloway and Roy Williams?! Were we possibly one piece away to contend for a Super Bowl when we traded for them? One is a future hall of famer and the other two are WR's that never truly lived up to their hype.

Why are we one piece away from a super bowl now? The reason AP is a future HOF'er is because he is old enough for us to know that.

The "one piece" thing is nonsense.

Way too many variables come into play to be able to reduce it down to "one piece"... especially if that "one piece" involves any position other than QB, and even that is dubious, i.e. 2013 Denver Broncos.

BTW, the Patriots gave a 4th rounder for a future HOF in Randy Moss.

That "one piece" didn't work either.

Yeah, but that's also an example of the move you should make if it's there to be made. I'm with you on the high picks for a 30 year old RB in general, but there are lots of ways to improve a roster, and at some price, this one would be worth it. The bigger issue is the salary cap implications. We've got a lot of good young players, and I want to keep them if we can.

If they are doing their due diligence they have. You should know what the other side is able and willing to part with before or during negotiations.

An old chinese proverb from Tao Jing, which I will translate into English, .........." He who comes across desperate...more probable than not, pays through the nose."
