Yikes. Lots of stuff to address there.
1st Dallas was not a Super Bowl contender every year with Romo. They were a playoff contender generally but the lacvk of playoff success has been well-documented.
Romo was paid 127 million dollars man. 127!!!!
Anyone feeling sorry for him is a few cards short of a deck.
Romo could retire right now, hand Jerry back 10m and walk into a job w CBS paying 5-6m yearly to cover and play golf and broadcast football
He'd be doing Dallas a huge favor for paying him over 110 million dollars even after the big rebate and he'd be set for salary in a job he could hold another 25 years easily... making another 100 million.
If he did this he'd be an even bigger legend because he'd retire a Cowboy and help the team out mightily. He'd likely be in the ring of honor before Jerry Jones passed which means as soon as possible.
So no I do not feel like we need to give him any breaks or set him free while we eat 19m in cap hits so he can play for Denver or HOU unless they wanna give up something or until we can release him and feel like we gave ourselves the best chance at a return before doing so... which means after the draft at a minimum.
And the reality is in 5 years when Romo has been retired a couple season he'll almost surely understand the Cowboys side in this and support what has happened.
It really serves no purpose to keep harping on the 19mil cap hit this year. The Dallas FO kept restructuring Tony's salary each year to create cap room and now at the end we
have to pay back all we borrowed. Tony didn't create the cap hit and it's not his fault so Tony owes NADA to the Cowboys. It's already been written that Tony is not
going to have to pay back any bonus or restructuring money if he retires as Jerry has said it so let it be done. Tony is not going to be traded to any team unless he throws out
his current contract because no team is going to trade for that contract. Dallas has leverage to keep Tony at his current salary or cut him. Those are the only viable choices
right now.
