Not too shabby of a list, very deep at WR/CB/RB - if McFadden is out of the question we shouldn't be too heartbroken.
Yeah, this is one of those situations where it's a good call either way. Some people are going to ***** and moan if we do one or the other, but there's really not a bad call to make.

Offensive play maker? Let's see, Romo aside, we have Terrell Owens, who has 14 TD's already this year, Witten, who is probably the best tight end not named Gates, and Marion Barber, who is steadily climbing up the ranks of running backs. I even heard on the broadcast tonight someone saying he should be named with LT and Peterson as the top backs in the league.

Can anyone imagine this next year...

Romo - another year wiser
TO
Witten
Barber
a healthy Terry Glenn

AND McFadden.

On NFL Network just now, Deion asked Jerry about the future of the team and Jerry's reply was that we need some "wow." He said we've got two draft picks, and we don't need a QB, O-line, or anyone in the defensive front 7. He said we need a difference-making player on offense.

McFadden will go top 5 at the worst. SOmeone will trade up for him. With the browns pick now in the 20s, and ours almost certainly upper 20s if not near 31, those two picks are only good enough to get us to around 10 or so. Giving up Spears and Carpenter would be ok; the question is how much are they worth?

Jerry's already got several "wows" on offense now namely Romo, TO, Witten & Barber and our entire OL sure qualifies. I can easily understand why he wants add another offensive "wow" either a RB or another quality WR. I'm just concerned Jerry will give up too much to get that "wow" offensive player (McFadden?). McFadden's probably a top 5 pick and we apparently will have 2 low first round draft picks which not nearly enough for McFadden. Now maybe there another player Jerry thinking of who won't cost so much in the draft. Or could he be thinking of a FA signing.

I have that feeling too, especially if we lose the SB. But I think if we sign our FA's we can afford to do a move like this.

24. # Seattle Seahawks: Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
Shaun Alexander will be 31 by the start of the 2008 season, and he has already shown signs of declining. His willingness to fall to the ground when no running lanes are available, combined with his 3.3 yards-per-carry average this year is concerning. If the Seahawks don't cut Alexander at the end of the year, I'll be shocked, even though the fat slob has five more years on his deal.

With Houston Nutt gone from Arkansas, Felix Jones may declare for the 2008 Draft. Seattle will be pleased if that happens; otherwise, it'll may have to go with someone like Steve Slaton.

Ouch, you think the guy likes Alexander? :laugh2: :muttley:

It will cost too much to get mcfadden. Teams all over the league are going with 3-4-5 wr sets, and moving the ball. You need to counter that with good CB's and Safeties.

TO is no spring chicken even though I see him playing another 3 years or so.

We are on the verge of being a great team. We just have a couple of holes to fill, WR, CB, S, and RB.

WR, CB in the first round, S in the 2nd, and RB in the 2nd.

This team would be incredibly dominant if we could shore up a couple of needs.
I love mcfadden, but I think we could use the picks in a better way than to package them up for one guy.

We better not give away Spencer.
I wouldn't call it a "give away." Getting McFadden is going to take significantly more than our two number 1s. I'd much rather give up someone like Spencer than someone like Witten.

Nobody loved McFadden more than I do, even last year... You can check the archives. :) But that's too much to give. If we want to trade a Spears who is barely (if at all) outperforming his backups, or a Carpenter who can't get on the field, fine. But Spencer is going to be a critical part of this team going forward. Yes, Ellis is playing great right now, but he is older. We need that third pass rusher now and we'll need him to start at some point in the future.

Besides, as much as I'd love to see McFadden here, it doesn't make sense to give up defense for offense when our O is unstoppable and our D is what needs the help.

I think Slaton and Felix Jones are just as "explosive" as McFadden, they just don't have the ability to be an every down, workhorse back. And luckily, we don't need an every down, workhorse back.

CowboyWay nails it. We have needs at WR (young guy with a resume), RB (likely replacing Jones and Thompson this offseason), CB (Newman and Henry aren't spring chickents and we need a young stud) and even Safety (In case Roy Williams' replacement in a year or two - hate to consider it, but has to be looked at).

We have 2 1sts, and a 2nd. I'd hate to package. We have a chance to add to this roster 3 early picks that can put us into the elite/dynasty type roster for the next few years if we play this right. Do not, package them to go get a RB in the first 5 picks. We have enough needs still that this would be a poor strategy.

Now I don't mind trading a 1st rounder and maybe a bit more (but not both firsts) to pry away a Larry Fitgerald (but I don't think even Arizona is stupid enough to let this guy go). BUT this is because the player is still extremely young relatively.

I think the team needs to keep going with young guys. Our first 3 picks should be at the skill positions to help out the now established Romo and to fix our relative weakness in the secondary/pass defense.

Jerry is making me nervous. Heard his last press conference and while he quickly said he'd like to keep Flo he basically said he is not going to spend that much money on Oline and Davis gives them so much flexibility yada yada. He is seeing the lights again maybe and wants big names. I don't mind him shelling out $'s for the names, just don't use up multiple picks.

Look at how Canty is coming on. Ware. Spencer. Keep drafting!

That is probably true, but Dallas will need a RB next year. Julius is probably gone. Tyson Thompson is also probably gone. The team will need depth and this will be a good draft to get a RB anywhere from Round 2 to 4.
