We don't have a pass rusher on the roster that has any skins on the wall outside of Lawrence. So we are going to get rid of the only one we have for picks down the road? So then we trade him and then as the logic seems to be here we trade for Earl Thomas and I still don't think a third rounder will do it. Probably gonna take the second.
With our worse pass rush....it will to a certain extent negate the addition of a better safety...and a safety who in many eyes is on the backside of his career. The Seahawks defense has got worse over the last few years as their pass rush has become ordinary. I don't think it is a coincidence.
So for Dallas this year, we would trot out Taco and most likely Crawford as our starting DE's, with Gregory as a pass rushing specialist. Tapper and Armstrong as the backups. Taco showed very little a year ago and while he looks improved I don't think you can expect him to become a double digit sacker this year. Carwford is gonna be your try hard guy that picks up 4-6 sacks. If Tapper can stay healthy maybe he does the same. Armstrong may pick up a few. Counting on Gregory to pick up the slack is just fool's gold. The guy is one mistake from being out of the league.
Only thing different from a year ago would be that Jaylon looks much improved and might be a sack threat from the LB slot.
Looking at it from a standpoint of this year, you pretty much are throwing in the towel before the season starts. The only chance we have is a defense that carries the load. The offense has too many questions at WR, TE and yes....QB to be counted on to be anything more than average. And the strength of our team, the OL and RB, lead to a style that tends to keep the score close....close enough for teams to always score in crunch time. We have seen it for years.
Those two draft picks? Let's say for argument's sake one of them is a stud his first year. Chances are against both being big contributors. Are we any better given these circumstances?
It basically would be sabotaging Garrett doing this....and giving Jones another excuse to bring him back for another year. If we were reasonably sure that trading Lawrence would get Garrett out of here and they would bring in a Coach with real control....then maybe you would consider it. In Dallas that isn't an option though....it is going to be a young guy just happy to get a shot or an old guy looking for a last hurrah and is willing to let the Jones boys play GM.
None of this sounds very attractive for this year. We have a very young team, one of the youngest in the league. Additions now should be more about getting a stud that can get us over the top rather than guys with potential for the future.
