Jimmy Johnson in his book "Swagger," in order to win SB, you need a great QB not a good one

If he was so great, why did his SB run end at 3? Aikman was surrounded with talent and depth at every position and top notch coaching. Once Jimmy left and the salary cap hit, he no longer had the elite talent and coaching. If he was so good, he would have elevated the talent around him like people say great QBs do. And no, the concussions and back problems were not the cause of this.

I've been a fan for almost 60 years and Im not trying to put Aikman down, but he wasn't as elite as people make him out to be. He won 3 SBs, but Eli won 2 and he wasn't near what Aikman was. Peyton won 2 and he was far better than Aikman.
So your contention is that he’s not great because he only won 3 Super Bowls.

Meh.
There’s definitely been some not-great QBs who have pulled off a super bowl win.

And how many QB’s are universally considered great before they’ve won a SB?
It’s basically like, your QB isn’t great until he wins one. So unless your team is in a rare position to acquire a QB via trade or FA who has already won one, you’re stuck with a guy who has question marks.

I think the whole “great” QB thing is overblown anyway. It takes a bunch of different elements to come together at the right time, the right circumstances, and a little bit of luck to pull it off.

Dak could go crap on the hood of your car and you would still try to convince everyone how awesome he is.
What does that have to do with a 4 page discussion on a quote JJ didn't say?

You say people who criticize Dak have an agenda. You would defend Dak no matter what. He could have thrown 4 pick 6's against San Fran and you would still have tried to tell everyone how great he is.

So I wonder who really has the agenda, that's all.

I said Dak played bad vs the 49ers probably 2 dozen times now.

I also don't sit there and draw sweeping conclusions that he is trash bc of it.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Thats ideal. But then you see Ripen, Williams, Dilfer, Flacco, Brad Johnson. If you want to be in the mix every year you need the great ones.
This.

You will sometimes get these types of guys winning a SB. Very rarely are they repeating or consistently getting back to the SB. Usually they win because of a hot streak (Flacco), or once in a lifetime type D (Dilfer & Johnson).

When you have a Brady, Mahomes, Manning, Brees, or Rodgers, you will mostly always be in the SB conversation.

Except good QBs have won numerous Super Bowls. Unless we are defining great as the top 15-20 QBs in the NFL there are no shortage of good QBs competing in and winning Super Bowls.

You just accused me of defending him vs SF?

Dak needs help...the efficiency chart floating around here proves what people like me have been saying about our weapons.

If you have been a fan for almost 60 years; you know the answer.

The Cowboys started Jerry Jone’s country club culture with the firing of Jimmy Johnson and hiring of Barry Switzer.

The Cowboys got worse each season afterwards through the 1997 season as Aikman describes below.

The Country Club culture is alive and well with the Cowboys not advancing to the NFC Championship since 1995.

After 7 years with Dak, I hold Jimmy's philosophy to be true. Dak will never get us to a SB, let alone win us one.

So, our fans aren't looking at a SB for another 4 or more years? Ugh
I can name 10 QBs who weren’t great and won a Super Bowl

People bring up, what about Matthew Stafford? I would consider him to be a great QB. He has ben great since HS, not to mention an All American SEC QB at Georgia, and eventually became the 1st overall pick in the draft.

Rams couldn't win with Goff, but immediately won with Stafford.
