Okay, Nick Foles?Today's NFL. If you read the book he explains the past including Dilfer.
I'll let you in on a secret, I'm not Jimmy Johnson, nor have I played him on TV, and nor did I spend the night at a Holiday Inn Express.Okay, Nick Foles?
Yes, exactly right. Ive never thought of or heard anyone else ever think that Trent Dilfer was great, lol. Hosteler, Plunkett, Doug Williams, etc too - not great, lol. Bradshaw won 4, and he wasn't great either. Its a team sport. Its not golf or singles tennis. There's been QBs that haven't been great that have won Super Bowls though.
The problem is having a not great QB that believes he's great.
That's where the trouble starts and that's what we have in Dak.

That may be a fair observation, but Nick Foles was the winning QB in 2017. I'd classify Jimmy Garoppolo going in 2019 as just a good quarterback as well. The league has changed in the last 10 years to emphasize passing and points, I feel the days of those guys are pretty much over
NFL history shows that isn't true. Having a great QB makes it easier to win Super Bowls, but teams have done it with great teams and quarterbacks on Dak's level. You have to be elite somewhere, such as having a great defense like Baltimore did with Dilfer, Tampa Bay did with Brad Johnson, etc. Coaching matters as well. Some teams can scheme around a QB's weaknesses and emphasize their strengths.
Following the rules isn't easy. There are only so many great QBs in the game. We should definitely continue to look for one, but in the meantime, we should also try to build a team that can win with a good one.Never emulate the outlier. Always follow the rule. Best chance for success.
You’re putting a knock on Troy Aikman, but how many QBs would’ve made it to the Super Bowl if they were on a bottom dweller team? Matt Stafford would’ve never sniffed a Super Bowl had he stayed in Detroit. I got news for you there’s never been a QB that made it to a Super Bowl on the bottom dweller team. Lol It takes more than just having a great or real good QB to get to a Super Bowl. You have to have a solid team around the QB.I don't see Aikman as a a great QB. He was a good QB on an exceptionally good team. Had he been on a bottom dweller, he would not have ever made it to the SB.
Hurts was firmly entrenched as a top 3 MVP candidate before his injury. Great or just a great year remains to be seen over next few years. But yeah, this year he was great.Good chance Jalen Hurts or Brock Purdy win a SB this year.
Which one is great?
So, our team is loaded enough to win with a noodle armed backup nobody of a QB, but not loaded enough for Dak, a 40mil "ToPtENqB!!" to beat a noodle armed backup nobody, literally Mr. Irrelevant? Even though our defense held them below 20 points? We saw Rush win 4 games. He's 5-1 and hardly a superior passer. You can win with those guys if the rest of the team is just loaded..
The 1991 Mark Rypien was way better than Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer. What you need is a great defense, a QB that doesn't turn the ball over, can move the chains on 3rd downs, and a big O-line with sure handed running back(s)
Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien disprove Jimmy's theory.
The Cowboys have not played in a NFC Championship game since 1995.There’s been plenty of QBs who won Super Bowls who weren’t great.
Just needling you a bit.I'll let you in on a secret, I'm not Jimmy Johnson, nor have I played him on TV, and nor did I spend the night at a Holiday Inn Express.
History proves thisThis.
You will sometimes get these types of guys winning a SB. Very rarely are they repeating or consistently getting back to the SB. Usually they win because of a hot streak (Flacco), or once in a lifetime type D (Dilfer & Johnson).
When you have a Brady, Mahomes, Manning, Brees, or Rodgers, you will mostly always be in the SB conversation.
