JJT forgets we have a quarterback so saying teams can load up just because in his mind we don't have a #1 receiver doesn't mean that is true.

Not every team has a team that can go 1 on 1.

Some teams run cover 2.

This isn't a Quincy Carter lead Dallas Cowboy team when useing a line like that was popular.

If you load the box up on Romo you're going to pay.

You don't sell out vs the run against a Quarterback who is one of the best in the league at buying more time.

We may go 8-8 for some other reason but teams will never be able to load up on us as long as Romo plays at a high level. Never.

Good, then STOP saying when the Cowboys lose that it was a disappointing season because they were Super Bowl Favorites. And when your moronic brethren in the media say that they are favorites to win the Super Bowl, please point out how moronic they are.

Personally, I think a lot of this falls on Romo. If he can cut his turnovers by half, this is probably an 11-5 team if not better.

Romo has to force the issue because a lot of times we can't depend on our defense.

We can't play 13 to 10 games consistently. Romo has to carry us because our defense will find miraculous ways to give up points.

He does need to cut it down but we can't tell him to stop trying to make plays consistently unless this defense finally starts living up to their billing.

If it were anyone but Wade coaching this team I would say he is nuts....but with Wade you never know...8-8 might actually turn out to be an over estimation.

If you take off your Cowboy colored glasses there is more than enough rational thought to predict 8-8.

Obviously I hope we are better than that and I think we have a chance to be.

But there are a lot of folks associated with this team that need to take 1 step forward in their consistency and accountability in 2009 to not only prove the doubters wrong but to prove that 2008 was indeed an aberration.

People who think you have to be a hater to predict 8-8 are hopelessly lost in homer-land.

I don't like JTT but in this instance he deserves some props for resetting the media expectations from this team.

People keep putting us in the superbowl before training camp even starts, I'd rather surprise than dissapoint.

JJT may be the overall most negative sports writer I have ever been exposed to. Look at his history and see how often his topics take a negative slant or maybe are scolding in some way. My guess is that is tone is negative more than 80% of the time on whatever topic he chooses. That's his MO. He likes to provoke....unless of course he has his knee pads on for Big Bill.

I do agree with that. The expectations the past 2-3 years have been crazy. In this case, however, JJT gets no credit from me for doing what he always does....kind of like the broken clock being right twice a day. He can be one smug, finger-pointing, pious, sob.

If I had to guess, I would give us 10-6 and hope for even better, but with a few bad breaks 8-8 could happen as well.

Sounds like JJT said what a lot of people didn't want to hear, but I have no problem with his prediction. We finished 9-7 last year and not much has changed since. We lost Owens, Thomas, Tank, Pacman, Burnett, Williams, and Henry go and picked up Brooking and Sensabaugh. We still have the draft coming up, but there isn't much in those moves to suggest that the Cowboys have made much improvement.

There is a lot of talk about change in philosophy and addition by subtraction, but it needs to translate onto the field. Maybe the team will go into this season with something to prove instead of waltzing in like all they have to do is show up to win the Super Bowl.

The Cowboys are good enough to go 10-6
We were good enough to win the SB last year but failed to make the playoffs. Go figure....

Maybe right now they are an 8-8 team, but we still got the draft, FA's, and roster cuts. Maybe after that Dallas will look more like a 10-6 team.

BTW, does JJT look like a Ninja Turtle to you?

I agree...without T.O. I doubt the Cowboys ever win a game again, and that makes me sad.

Just my opinion, but I totally disagree with you.

Its true that JJT does look not at things with Cowboy colored glasses on. Once you truly realize that and apply a bit of objectivity to your own thinking, he's nowhere near as negative as you might think.

Frankly, he's probably my favorite read amongst Dallas writers (departed Breer aside). Granted, he has no competition there, but much of the time I find there is thought behind his viewpoints rather than just schtick (Galloway) or agenda or parroting the latest drivel.

I rarely find him unjustifiably scolding or belittling.

But I do think there are plenty of Cowboy fans who not only choose not to look at their team objectively, but truly cannot do it. I think this thread is proof of that.

Dallas will win 10+ games in 2009... Roy Williams will get his 1,200+ yards and 9 or 10 TD's. Witten will get around 1,000 yards too.

Hell, why stop there.

If our secondary could tackle, our safeties could cover anyone, if the offensive line could play 16 solid games, if rb's didnt miss blocks in pass protection, if wr ran the right routes and if our head coach and special teams coach didnt keep getting fooled we would have been 16-0.

I understand romo and garrett are to blame for everything, and especially when he runs into teams like baltimore pittsburgh, ny, baltimore and philly. he is supposed to score 30+ against them, even though no one else had or does.

All we hear about all year is how good pittsburgh, ny and baltimore's defenses are from analysts, bloggers, radio guys....but then when romo plays against them suddenly they are perceived to be not that good.

All I heard about all year was rex ryan, ray lewis and ed reed from guys like jaimie dukes, deion sanders etc.....then when romo scores 24 has all the momentum in the final 3 minutes and just needs the ball back in his hands to win the game and the defense blows it because of another episode of a lack of fundamentals, toughness and discipline....its all on romo.

The ravens D dominates mcnabb, Ben R. and most every team they play, but when romo puts 24 on the board its not enough and he sucks.

Then all these same people in the next breath talk about how dominant the ravens defense is and how they are going to the superbowl....but when romo puts up 24 against them and loses he sucks.

I can only imagine how much guys like Tony Romo and Troy Aikman hate cowboys fans.

So JJT thinks that Roy cannot be a #1 WR and he cant find anybody right now (other than Jerry) that thinks Roy can be a #1 WR. He then says that if a team does not have a #1 WR that commands a double, the defense loads up on the running game and the team has no shot..................

What WR for the Eagles commands a double, yet they make it to the NFC Championship game???

What WR for the Ravens commands a double, yet they make it to the AFC Championship game???

What WR for the Titans (league's best record), commands a double team???

What WR did the Pats have when they were winning all their SB trophies that commanded a double team???

JJT is a complete moron if he thinks that you have to have a #1 WR that commands a double to win in this league. I can name team after team after team that have JAGs at WR and go deep into the playoffs year in and year out. Philly's best WR last year was a rookie and they made it to the NFC Championship Game.
