For folks wondering, from Rotoworld...

Jason Pierre-Paul's right index finger amputation was reportedly done to "minimize the damage" to his hand following a fourth of July fireworks accident.
Keeping the severely-damaged digit would have threatened the speed of Pierre-Paul's recovery. A source speaking to NJ.com told beat writer Jordan Raanan that Pierre-Paul is expected to play "this year," and could "even be on the field by the start of the season." (This is likely agentspeak.) Fractures in Pierre-Paul's hand are expected to take longer to heal than the amputated finger. JPP is going to need to re-learn quickly how to use his surgically-repaired hands to beat offensive linemen and make tackles.

Giants really dodged a bullet contract-wise, though I'm sure they'd rather have a DE with all his bits instead.

Based on the fractures and amputation, I don't see this guy ever playing close to his former self. Certainly not by Week 1

He may be on the field at the start of the season but it's going to take some time to get that hand back in anything close to football shape... and who knows how much less strength that hand will actually have.

No way I sign him to a 14m deal this year......save it, trade for someone or find a couple FAs

People keep mentioning the fact that the top of the picture shows information about another patient... I'm no expert, but there doesn't appear to be enough information to warrant any type of consequence. It only tells the patient's sex, age and procedure.

If I'm the Giants I'm thinking seriously about pulling the tag offer.

I'm sure they're considering it. They might go ahead and let it ride just to keep from looking bad to the rest of their players... but it wouldn't surprise me if they did pull it.

You know the front office is struggling with what to do.

I would understand not wanting to look bad in front of the players. But I would have to think some of the players on the Giants have to think, "What a arse clown."

It reminds me of the Eric Williams situation.

14m is a lot to tie up for a guy that will never be 100% and will still be a FA at the end of the year

I would let him go and save the cap space for a trade or FA

Wow. And there quite a few reports out there in the media implying that "it wasn't that bad". After the dude was still in the hospital a couple of DAYS later it was clearly a serious situation.

And I'm very curious to know what the condition of said hand is overall. Let's not forget, he's certainly not dealing with only an amputated finger here. His other fingers and rest of hand could be pretty banged up as well.

Yep and there were some here that posted... "Oh they're just keeping him in there cos he has lots of money."

Pfft.

I don't disagree with that. I just wonder if the team is thinking that his 100% might not ever be worth $14M again... or if they're thinking it wont effect him that much once it is healed?

I can't see it myself either. I'm sure there is plenty of damage to ligaments and muscles as well. Maybe if it was his little finger, but I can't see him being back to the Giants until well into the year. Seems pretty likely he's at least on PUP.
