Just say no if he's there at 26

I have no idea why anyone would want to draft a running back in the first round? In today's NFL you want longevity with your first pick and drafting a running back isn't it. It's very rare that an NFL running back is going to have the same impact and effectiveness during his second contract (if he even gets one) like he did in his first. There are so many better options there so if the Cowboys were smart in the first round (they've done very well here btw) they will pass on Bijan Robinson, who is a very good running back but the Cowboys will do so much better in the long run with an offensive lineman. Connor McGovern's spot hasn't been filled so an O-line at 26 would make a lot of sense, especially with all the good O-lineman that they've drafted in the past in the first round then maybe take a running back on day two or three.
You're worried about Robinson? Worry about Gibbs. He's the one that will be there at 26.

Cause running backs help you win football games.

Drafting a running back in the 1st is the correct move if he's an impact player.

First you get the 5th year option and a 6th year if you want to use the franchise tag on the cheapest position.

The other advantage is Running Backs contribute immediately and are difference makers.

Only an idiot would pass on Robinson at 26.

Biijan would be a very good value at 26. I understand this sentiment if you are picking top 15 but by the time you get to the end of the 1st, you are usually picking 2nd round grades. Robinson is arguably a top 5 player in this draft regardless of position and would be a no-brainer at 26.

Ignorant, lazy and ridiculous response.

Bijan Robinson is a top 10 talent who could easily transform our rushing attack into one of the best, especially paired up with Tony Pollard, for at least the next 5+ years. Heck, even Jahmyr Gibbs would be just as effective as a 1st round pickup.
That would greatly help our Offense, especially during the playoffs.

Our starting Oline is already intact. No need to jump the gun and reach for another Olineman in the 1st round when a very good one can be had in the mid rounds of the draft, especially since this Oline already has its starters and is only in need of a quality backup who can be molded into a quality starter. The Eagles last season had the #1 Oline in the NFL, yet only 1 of their Olinemen was a 1st round pick. The rest were later round picks, along with undrafted free agents.

The problem with the Cowboys Oline is not the ability of its Olinemen. It's the Oline coaches they have had. Here is to hoping Mike Solari can coach these players up better than the previous ones have.

If we’re dumb enough to make that mistake again, run him into the ground for 4 years and get rid of him. This isn’t the 1990‘s….

I saved plenty of time tonight by not having to read this thread. I get what the OP is suggesting, but I would hazzard a guess this guy isn't making it past the Iggles. I would 100% take a chance to trade up to get him, but this is our Cowboys and in no way will that happen

Truth be told I think Bijan Robinson is the most overrated player in the draft.

That's not to say he's a bad player or even a bad pick at 26, but I'm hearing he's a top 5 / top 10 player in the draft and I don't see it. I think he's going to give up a lot of lost yards dancing behind the LOS like he does. Sure, He gets away with it at College but nobody gets away with that at the NFL level so that aspect of his game will need to have reigned in IMO. He's a brilliant pass catcher, maybe the best I've seen but that means he's ideally used in situations where Pollard thrives. He's not a particularly powerful runner so I don't think he compliments Pollard at all. Maybe he's talented enough that it doesn't matter and I get that it's a five-year decision. But if we drafted him, we'd have two backs I'd want to see playing the same situation and neither I am completely sold on to successfully pick up dirty yards so I question it as a "need" pick. We'd be taking him because he's too good to pass up rather than a need IMO. For the Eagles he might work well because they use the QB sneak in short-yardage and have a QB that uses his feet that might allow Bijan to play to his strength, but he's not a fit for us.

While I totally understand the idea that drafting a RB in the first round is foolish, I think that for a few teams at least, drafting Bijan would make perfect sense. The Eagles, for example, have an extra 1st and they have the type of offense that adding Bijan would give them the most balanced/dangerous offense in the league for a few years. In their case I would totally do it, even with their #10 overall pick. Of course not many teams can afford that luxury.

The Bijan crowd would love to have him here.
But who would block for him?
I want a rebuilt O line that can open holes for Pollard and Davis.

Can’t we have both? I don’t read it as a either or. There’s three good guards in the second round there’s one good guard in the third that I know of. Others can correct me on my statement glad to be proven wrong

With Terence Steele signing his contract...the offensive line can now look like: RT Tyron Smith 6-5 320 32 13; RG Zach Martin 6-4 315 32 10; C Tyler Biadasz 6-3 316 25 4; LG Terence Steele 6-6 310 25 4; LT Tyler Smith 6-6 332 22 2

Current depth includes: Josh Ball 6'8" 304 24 3 yr; Chuma Edoga 6'3" 308 25 5 yrs; Brock Hoffman 6'4" 302 23 1; Alex Taylor 6-8 301 25 2; Matt Waletzko 6-8 305 23 2.
This backup group is 25 or younger and will provide reasonable competition and a lot of experience at the tackle position.

All of this group of tackles are 6-5 or taller. The backup group has 3 who are 6-8.

The Cowboys need a strong developmental/starter within a year's time, for guard. That can be either a tackle or present guard.

This positional group is very strong as well as deep on the current roster.

Now, the scheme has turned to a break-away running back positional unit. The currrent offensive line will be able to support this style very well. The team now needs a break out pair of running backs that will put high pressure on opposing defense...both at running the ball and in receiving.

The team actually needs either Robinson or Gibbs. Either of these two added to Tony Pollard, would give Dak Prescott with an intense offense both in passing and running the ball.

Throw in a quality tight end, and the Dallas offense will be able to go up against any other offense in the NFL.

If I were Jerry, this time I would pay the price to move up, even if a future pick, and secure one of Robinson or Gibbs.

It's time not to lose to a team held to only 19 points, again!

If Robinson was still there at 12. I would pay for a trade with Houston, even with a significant pick in 2024.

Only fools draft worrying about a second contract in a league with 20-30% roster turnover every year.

Show me how many backfields are intact five years later? Easy to answer: NONE

Now one could say QB is an exception but is it? QB is the biggest gamble of all as history has proven. Besides, if he does turn out to be the guy what does it matter? You will end up paying whatever it takes to keep him.

Now as regards RB it certainly can be argued that they have a shorter service life at the top of their game then probably any other position.
THEREFORE worrying about a second contract THERE is idiotic.

IF you want to keep him an extra year then you franchise him. Even two years if it comes to that.

Now if you are arguing, as you seem to be, that a short career is a reason to not draft anyone at a position, I ask you why?

In case you have not noticed it, the average career in the NFL is LESS THAN FIVE YEARS.

In case you have not noticed it a team with a few exceptions has at best 5 years before it has to be rebuilt.

A pretty good Super Bowl run can happen in five years...consecutively run.

A break out pair of runners would put Dallas at the top of the offensive pecking order.
