Whoever signs him will need to guarantee the whole contract I would imagine. That would be crazy to do right now. They need to see this play through a little while longer imo.

It wouldn't be crazy. You take a hit of a few million, that isn't terribly significant compared to the potential reward.

Our line being so good idea reason he won't come here. Would have been nice though.

I think there will be no shortage of teams that will be willing to do that. The money we are talking about here is less then What a lot of 3rd round picks get. How many 3rd rounders have we pissed away over the years? The risk reward is too good to pass up IMO. I think there will be a lot of teams willing to do that. JMO

Not opinion... all facts.

That can really go one of two ways.

Is it overcrowded or does the prestige of the line take him up a notch simply by association.

If he's not the father of the baby and nothing else points to him then I could see teams more willing. But nobody wants to be the team that pays him over a million and he turns out to be involved in a murder. The team name being associated with him from now on.

All the deals are likely to be the same, the only difference would be

a) probability of starting

and

b) timing of the deal

We're not doing great on A, but we have control over B.

I think he can beat out Leary at LG today.

Maybe he can, maybe he can't. He isn't a guard and Leary has a lot of experience on him at this point, further ideally I'd like to see him at Rt and keep Leary where he is in case we re-sign him next year. I think Leary is a better LG than Free is a RT.

I don't really buy into that. Consider, if he came here, he would likely play Guard at the beginning but what would happen is that either he or Martin would kick out to RT. Free would start this year but by 2017, Free would be gone and one of these guys would be the starting RT. The other would be a big time Guard making really good money. That might even happen by 2016. The cap hit on Free, if released in 16 would only be 1.5, which could be spread out.

He couldn't beat out Leary? Or Free by week one?

Agents will always tell a player to go to the team with the easiest access to a starter roll or a roster spot depending on their skill level.

Tony Romo himself said he looked around at teams and didn't look to see who their backup or starting QB was, but he looked at who their third quarterback was, so he had the best chance of making the team.

He's a G/RT prospect. Quit with this he isn't a G stuff. That may be his best position like Zack Martin who also played LT in college.

If Free is healthy, he could not beat out Free by week one. He may not be able to beat out Free at all in his Rookie Season and if I had to bet, I would bet he could not.

No, not all the same. Some will be able to offer more up front money then others. Some will have no state tax implications. Some will offer better opportunity to start at certain positions. Some will offer better long term value. Some will offer more opportunity to make money away from Football. They will not all be the same.

It may be his best position, but I can tell you that he would rather play and get paid as a tackle. A team telling him he will move inside to guard isn't going to top his list.
