La'el Collins Thread - Cleared post 767; visited Cowboys - 05/06/15

I agree with you. I hope Dallas gets him but all I am seeing is a bunch of homer responses as if Dallas is the only team in need of a OT yet we are the top OL in the NFL I serious doubt no one is in big need of help on the OL much more so than the Cowboys
I give Jerry and Dallas huge kudos for even getting him in town.
If they win this it is by being better sales people and outrecruiting others.
And I don't discount Jerry as salesperson one iota.
But he's playing versus a stacked deck.

This kid is gonna get 17 checks this year for ~18k each after all the stuff is taken out. That 48k difference in signing bonus is very real.

No one would take 40k now over 88k, period.
The future earnings are more likely lesser staying here than elsewhere because he is going to start out much lower on the OL totem pole than other places.
But that extra 48k is real money, today.

Maybe it could be argued he'd make more here in endorsements or something but the reality is up front money is king, especially in the NFL and especially to a kid whose probably earned less than 75K in his entire life because he has been playing football on scholarship.

I really hope I am wrong but the logic I am using is 100% correct and the stuff you are tossing about is mostly wishful thinking.

Tax implications are likely more important than the difference in signing bonus money...

We just disagree, I think there are several teams who have poor LT play who are interested and Ryan is very much interested as is Buffalo as is the Rams and some others. I would love to have Collins but I think there are better situation for him than Dallas do not know what else to tell you

On Parnell getting 32 mill? very good for a RT yet does not even crack the top 10 payouts made my LT

OK, we'll agree to disagree.

It will be hard for him to leave Dallas. Good job in getting him to town, now complete the sale

To be honest I have told you team who are showing great interest you choose to blow it off? Yes Getting Collins is great for Dallas I agree but to act as if well no one needs a LT around the NFL?

You mentioned Miami and then Philadelphia. And I gave you clear evidence that refuted any possibility where he would be handed a starting LT role with either.

It's all about his next contract in 2 years. He needs to go somewhere that will elevate him so he can get the biggest payday possible. Playing on the best oline in football will do that. His level of play would rise due to the all pros around him. He'd just have to compete and win the job.

BTW, homers, Parnell is an example of why he wouldn't choose here.

Parnell spent years here making peanuts playing at a starting level when given the chance and was never even a consideration to re-sign.

Parnell got a big fat check.

I bet Parnell would've stayed had he got the same deal.

They certainly would if it meant turning a blind eye to every other factor, period.

Behind whom? What evidence supports this belief? He can compete to start against either Leary or Free today, with as good a chance of starting over them as elsewhere.

But that extra 48k is real money, today.
Does he have loan sharks chasing him? Why does he need that money 'today'? Why should a few thousand dollars be a career-deciding factor when eventually all of the money is the same?

Maybe it could be argued he'd make more here in endorsements or something but the reality is up front money is king, especially in the NFL and especially to a kid whose probably earned less than 75K in his entire life because he has been playing football on scholarship.

Again, this is a guy who was willing to sit out the season if he was drafted after the 3rd round. That is in no way a guy so desperate for money that he'll worry about some money today versus overall.

I really hope I am wrong but the logic I am using is 100% correct and the stuff you are tossing about is mostly wishful thinking.

You keep telling yourself that. You have a real issue with believing your opinion to be the only logical one.

Exactly!

But this seems impossible for so many to see. All he would have to worry about is his own level of play, not anyone else's around him.

Did people not notice that once Tyron Smith cracked into the Pro Bowl that suddenly the accolades came for the rest of the line?

Did they also not notice that once success came for the '90's Cowboys they had multiple linemen in the Pro Bowl ever year?

It's a lot easier to make the Pro Bowl and receive accolades on a talented team than it is to get noticed on a terrible one.

Yeah Philly and Miami aren't exactly examples of teams that are in need of LTs. Further, in Philly's case, when Peters is finally done, they have said they will move Lane Johnson to LT. So Collins might not ever have a chance at LT there either.

I LOVE the tactic.

Romo and the offensive line sitting across from him saying, "WE WANT TO BUILD THE GREATEST OFFENSIVE LINE OF ALL TIME."

That's a powerful sales pitch.
