He certainly has no trade value now. However, if he were to make a few plays as a situational QB that could change. Of course he’s done less in Dallas than he did in San Francisco they handed him the starting job in 2021. If it’s going to be a bad year for college QBs in 2025, then how do you know all of them will show more promise than him? Do you have a crystal ball? He’s not very good but no guarantees any of them coming out next April will be any better. At least he’s shown he can make some plays with his legs. Now that Dak has been extended, I believe the Cowboys would like to unload him for something.
I’m sure the Cowboys would love to unload him for something. But no one trades draft capital for a “situational QB”. No one needs to have a “crystal ball”. Teams will draft QBs in the 4th thru 7th rounds of the 2025 draft rather than sign Lance, who is a free agent on March 12.
There will be another free agent on March 12. His resume has 93 NFL starts, a W/L record of 47-45-1. He has a Super Bowl ring, and may have a second one after this season. He had a shot at the NFL, too. He made the most of it. He is a career backup now. Ironically he played at NDSU, too. The last two teams that acquired him did not have to trade anything for him. And he is being paid less than Lance this season, despite a resume Lance cannot even dream about. That is the QB market Lance will be competing in.
If you did have a crystal ball, what do you think it would tell you about Trey Lance’s NFL future. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I just asked my grand daughter’s Magic Eight Ball about Lance’s professional football career. The response was “Outlook Not So Good. Sorry.
