That's why he needs to add weight, he's not a pure speed rusher and is going to have be able to stop the run on a consistent basis. I'm sure they will be patient year one. He will need to make big strides by year two or they will move on.

Yeah, I'd be perfectly happy with an above average starter at the LDE spot. He just doesn't have the get-off to be our wardaddy.

I'll never understand these posts.

A guy played 16 snaps, and we have people already calling him a bust. This guy is just a week into his pro career.

Whining about him serves no purpose other than egos of people that wanted someone else in the draft.

Like it or not, Taco is on the team. He's a Cowboy. You can either be patient with him or be miserable.

FWIW, I didn't see Taco get blown back one time .

Gregory didn't have the injury history Watt did. Teams get scared of trying to add weight to guys with a long history of leg injuries.

Fair point. I still would have gambled on 'good' vs. playing it safe with 'meh'.

I was very fearful of Watt. The kid screams LBer to me. I just saw him lose at POA too often for my liking.

We don't often disagree Son but here we do. I would have taken Watt all day over Charlton. I hope I'm wrong but I did like all of the next 4 picks better.

End of day, it's done now and Charlton is a Cowboy. Does no good to break the guy over his first Pre Season game. Those who say he should at least show something if he's our 1st round pick are, IMO, correct but so what? It's done, we gotta be patient now and support the guy until the team decides to go another way.

I've said it before but I think if you're disappointed in Taco then you had too high of expectations.

This is guy is a bit of a developmental player.

He needs an offseason of strength training and he needs to get better with his technique.

I liked Watt, too, but too much of a 3-4 outside linebacker, so not sure the fit would work.

I certainly didn't expect a project in round 1.
The TJ Watt comparison will fail because he isn't even playing DE. He is a 3-4 OLB which we don't need.

Last night didn't get me down on Taco...I was never high or low on him in the first place. I thought we reached and drafted out of positional need.

So many prospects over the last few years have been drafted that seemed like they could be a force in the league and so many of them turned into invisible players. The true dominating pass rusher is the most rare species in the NFL.
Out of the top 10 pass rushers in the NFL last year 7 were LB's and 3 were DE's.
I've been saying for a while that pressure comes from scheme and confusing the offense with waves of unpredictable pressure...Not lining up 2 "War Daddy's" and turning them loose because in todays NFL that just doesn't happen.

Like in this video... He got off the snap pretty quick. Once he gets to the tackle is when his struggles begin. Strength and technique. That can be taught.
That was his BEST snap of the night.

i would take pressure from an OLB position if it is reliable pressure.

What is the expectation with this player though? Superstar? I doubt he reaches that.

A solid rotational guy? He's going to get there I think.

We're trying to win on the DL with numbers.

This is where I have hope for the pass rush even though Dallas doesn't have a great pass rusher.

Collins is the real deal, and Irvin took a big leap last year. I feel confident Tapper will be better than Lawrence, who is healthy again. Thornton looks to be returning to the player they thought they signed. And Crawford can do things when he gets help from the rest of the line.

Collectively, there could be a better pass rush in that combination.

Irvin's suspension really hurt.

Me thinks he can develop into a solid starter down the road. He's got the measurables, just needs snaps and coaching.

Before we ever drafted him I viewed him as a guy that could be another David Irving type and I still think he could do that.

some say irving has incredible bend, and it does not seem taco has that.
think taco is going to be larger and less explosive than irving

So you're saying that he is a possible Chris Canty? I could see that. A more athletic Canty.

Canty was super strong though and that is a weakness right now for Taco.

Also, like Irving, Taco is versatile... They may kick him inside and he could look better as a pass rushing DT.

Just be patient with this guy. We got him at pick 28 so lower the bar a little.
