Madness

Honestly, is this all the matters any longer? That we can see our team on TV and that we lead the world in merchandise sales?

I can remember a time we were known for winning. Now we are known for absurdity.

No, now we are known for crying fans that go absolutely ape over 9-7....

If you really hate Jerry you quite simply need a new team. He isn't going anywhere. I think the majority here realize he is very far form perfect but complaining about his actions are just absurd. He has no boss and he has no duty to anyone else but himself. It is his team, his money, his new stadium.

If he wanted to be All Davis and pay Javon Walker a gazillion dollars nothing we say about it matters.

Feel free to just pick whichever team is winning each year if it makes you feel any better.

I think he picked this one.

And being a fan of the Cowboys doesn't mean he has to blindly accept whatever BS Jones spits out - and he obviously doesn't.

Like a lot of us.

And you have the right to like whatever you want.

What you don't have is the right to tell someone else to 'find another team' because they don't share your opinions.

If you don't like what he has to say in this thread, feel free to read something else.

First, the Cowboys aren't the first team to go 13 years without a play off win.

No, but right now we share that distinction with the Detroit Lions. That's great company to be in right there.

. Like I said, I don't agree with everything he does; I'm just not giving up on the season because Jerry still owns the team.

It has nothing to do with him owning, it has to do with him mismanaging.

Many, if not most, of us felt/hoped he had changed when he hired Parcells. But it's become clear that what change did occur went right out the window when BP left. Jerry's right back to being large and in charge and mismanaging the team like before. Now I can't say we won't win the Super Bowl this year, because it is in the realm of possibilities. Of course it's also in the realm of possibilities that the Detroit Lions could win the Super Bowl this season. I think we have a better chance, but neither scenario is likely with the way things are going now.

Actually I can tell anyone whatever I like.

And I personally enjoy the angst so many of you feel. I guess you just love being miserable.

My thoughts were for self-betterment of those involved.

Keep hating the owner of the team you support if you want... as if thta makes any logical sense whatsoever.

They are not YOUR Dallas Cowboys, they are Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys.
That's just the way it is.

His buying the team meant he could fire Landry.
He can add or not add anyone he wants to the Ring of Honor and he can continue to make money off you the yokels who will cry off-season then line his pockets again come fall.

The only thing comical is someone crying over his every move and then remaining a fan of his team.

Or someone 'wasting their time' on something they themselves deem irrelevant.

Wasted time is 30 posts about nothing saying the same thing with no hope of it mattering, ever. See your post history as reference.

I accept Jerry for the good and bad he does. If I ever feel he is 100% all wrong at that point I'll stop 'wasting my time'.

In the meantime I'll keep laughing at his detractors. Very similar to a bunch of women getting together to complain about their husbands but making sure to leave the gathering in time to have dinner ready.

Its a message board. The whole point is being able to express your opinions on the current state of the team and its direction. Some of us don't think Jerry is the right guy for the job he has, but that doesn't mean any of us think what we say here is going to matter one whit. It's not like Jerry is reading this thinking "that arsehole wileedog just may have a point about Owens..."

Is your perfect vision of a Cowboys board a couple of hundred people posting about what a good thing continuity is, how great the uniforms look this year, maybe an occasional Crazy Cowboy "Thanks for posting" and speculating how many TDs Owens is going to score while kumbaya plays in the background?

And yeah, people have knee jerk reactions all of the time, we know that. But 13 years is a pretty long time to form an opinion.

Again, not everything Jerry does is wrong. Hey even Troy Hambrick had his "Dookie Stick." But he has time and again made himself the focus, put his personal ego stroking before what is best for the team, and the results speak soundly for themselves.

Until he wins with this model of everything about the team from building stadiums to Rowdy to offensive playcalling to food vendor contracts to personnell decisions to all things public relations having to feed through one solitary person you are going to hear about it. Because it has led to complete and undeniable disaster once already pre-Parcells, and now Jerry wants to play the exact same set of cards again.

I guess my image of Jerry Jones is different. When I watch and listen to interviews, I don't see/hear the "arrogance" that you refer to. I see/hear an individual who harbors quite possibly the most disappointment in this past season. I see/hear an individual who finally sees that media attention can have a negative impact on this organization, as a whole, and is trying to fix that issue by regulating the information that the media has made it's modus operandi to put in a negative light.

If you recall, Jerry at the beginning of the season was quoted as saying there is no such thing as bad press. I think we all disagreed with that statement. This gag order is an indication that his opinion in that regard has changed. And since we all think change is needed, his change in this respect should be encouraging. As the offseason progresses, other changes, I am sure, will become evident and will be for the betterment of the team.

Like I've said before, as long as he recognizes the need for change and has the courage to implement those changes despite the criticism it might draw, I think we all can harbor some hope for the 2009 season.

Nice analogy. I couldn't have said it better myself.

It may come close, but the head coach was still up there wasn't he? Go ahead give me ONE example. You can't. This is absurd, people. You can say "what is the big deal" all you want. It IS a big deal. It is the owner not even pretending that his head coach matters as an authority figure on football and personnel issues any more. ONLY JERRY matters on those issues. He will control info. He is now the Baghdad Bob of the Dallas Cowboys.

Not even close, Pioli is a real football guy from one of the most successful programs in contemporary history. He probably had a good reason, unlike Jerry who is trting to cover his butt.

And why don't you hold yourself to the same standards you would have other adhere to?

Why is it somehow OK for you not to 'feel 100%' one way or the other and not someone else?

For others I guess absolutes are OK?

Yeah, too bad for Jerry that his 'leaks' never came from anyone in his coaching staff 'on the record' anyway.

An nobody has been able to tell me if Bagdad Bob's gag order includes the players or if it's just the coaches who've been neutered?

This is a man who wants to be the one and only voice of the team. I doubt most on here even knows the name of the Steelers GM or what he looks like (without googling him). Funny how some teams know how an organization should be run. But in Dallas it's all got to be about Jerry. He's got to be in full control of all personnel, hire the HC and most of the coaching staff and be the face and one voice of the team. He'd rather be in full control and fail than give up control and win. It's all about him and his ego.

If it was Wade, or Garrett or Stewart, what would your reaction have been? Fire him, suspend him?

I think we will change players and have let two coaches go, with Parcells it was continuity. Roughly 3 years later everyone wants change. Jerry has decided to approach the offseason already with a different mindset and a "gag" order to the coaches and players. Why don't we see the gag order as change within the organization. So when some dumbarse player (Ellis, Crayton, TO, whomever) speaks out, Wade can actually rightfully so fine the player. I believe that it is just too early to judge this season based upon the last one. We are now 0-0 with the draft and training camp to find other things to complain and look forward to. But to those that opinion resides within the madness or insanity or JJ is emasculating Wade, needs to take a chill pill and realize that the gag will hopefully allow the coaching staff to focus on the offseason and not the disappointing past 8 months of the 2008 season. Jerry doesn't own the best team in football and professional sports for no reason.

OH MY GOODNESS! JTERRELL thinks I ought to find another team!!!!! You know what, after about 38 years as a Cowboys fan, who knows, maybe even longer than Jterrel has been alive, I guess I have to leave. That Jterrell sure is an authority on the Cowboys. And you know what? HIS POSTS MATTER.

Thats right. His posts matter. His positive ones. His not so positive ones. Heck, I don't know, I guess ALL his posts matter.

You know what fella. If this really is JUST Jerry's team. If owning the Dallas Cowboys doesn't give you ANY responsibility to your fan base. Then we all might as well follow your advise and root for a different team every year, whatever fits our fancy.

Fact is, I don't even think Weird Jerry would say that. He's always talking about "ar fans".

No, JTerrell. I think I'll stay right where I am. Doing what I've been doing before Jerry, and what I'll be doing after Jerry, Lord willing. (I'm younger than he is) I'll continue to be a fan of THE TEAM.

I'm not a fan of Jerry's, and until he changes his ways, I won't be. (If that is ok with such a fan as you Jterrell... is that ok?)

And unlike Jterrell, I plan to keep my brain. I don't plan on rubber stamping, in my mind, and in my heart, whatever Jerrah says should be.

Meanwhile, I'm hoping for a breakthrough in year 14!

Your over exaggeration towards jterrell is not necessary. He is suggesting something that if you do not want to be a fan of Jerry, don't make it a daily, hourly or weekly notice to other fans that maybe don't agree with you, simply accept and debate, but don't retort to calling names or making suggestions because he, like myself don't really like fans who simply like to hear themselves talk so to speak.

So you truly believe that Jerry is not taking responsibility for not owning his team correctly? As I recall, he has the best team in all of sports, but he still isn't taking responsibility with owning the Cowboys. I too am hoping for better results next year, but to blame Jerry for things that happen on the field are blind to what really is the truth. But to you it is quite different. Jerry gets the blame and every but him receive praise when we do good.
