I don't want Forte but I do find it amusing that the people saying Forte and his 3.9 YPC is total garbage(along with he is past his prime and has lost a step) are some of the same posters that have no problem with McFadden and his 3.3 YPC.

Just a observation I noticed going through these 12 pages.

The difference is McFadden didn't cost draft picks or $7 million to acquire.

What clouds the issue of this whole discussion is the news recently that Jones would be willing to trade our #1 pick next year for a player who could help immediately.

Whom among these guys we are speaking of is worth that sort of price..?

Exclude AP also..as I don't think Minny wants to part with AP with Bridgewater at QB needing a RB and the threat of playaction needed to give him more time to read the defense.

So who fits this scenario?

No one fits a first rounder in my opinion and certainly not Davis who I spoke about earlier. The original article posted mentioned Davis among names and I thought he would be an interesting option to explore but no way for a first. I don't think guys like Miller, Forte, Michael or Mason are either. I think we have to roll with the current crew, keep watching and wait and see what turns up once training camp and cuts start happening.

I know Jones threw out that they would consider trading a first rounder for a player that could help immediately...but does that player need to be an RB?

Do we really need earth shattering?

We just need productive, dependable, reliable, not prone to injury. Similar to the things Murray did. Murray wasn't earth shattering. But was productive, dependable, reliable, stayed healthy all year.

None of our backs have shown any type of consistency of being productive, dependable, reliable, and Williams and McFadden are prone to injuries. Forte was always productive and his production would probably translate to Dallas.

Its funny that McFadden gets a pass despite several question marks. Yet no one takes Forte's productive into account.

Forte has produced and will probably produce more so in Dallas. We don't need him to be earth shattering.

I'd take Forte over any of our backs right now so that we can solidify that position heading into camp.

Forte is absolutely earth shattering..he's one of the best backs in the league...and he isn't going to get cut...so he doesn't count

Randle >>>> most backs that get cut in camp...

Yep.

McFadden's 3.3 YPC doesn't knock my socks off but he's a "minimum-wager" in the NFL world.

And if he can't cut it, then there are guys like Chris Johnson, Knowshon Moreno and Stephen Jackson out there who I know can get 4.0+ YPC in this offense... And they won't cost the Cowboys a draft pick or millions in salary.

2011 he got hurt and still out produced him in TDs
2013 how good was MINNs QB??? CHI was number 2 offense
What about 2012?????

2011- so getting hurt is a good thing? I will take a healthy RB over an often hurt one any day of the week
2013- Peterson did just as bad in some of the years he had a legend throwing to him

Yes in 2012 Peterson beat Forte... that is 1 of the last 4 years

If AP is a child abuser so is my dad. And his dad. My dad was also a southern baptist minister, a war protester and a bleeding heart liberal. Wrap all that around your mind. Point is, parents do things they regret later because they love their children. Making them out to be a public pariah or felon is 2015 ridiculousness. Let the man play football. His son will be ok, as long as his son desires to be ok.

Sorry... I still feel Ray Rice should be playing instead of Peterson... Ray Rice hit an adult once... Peterson hit a child many times.

I can't really argue much with you. I think its based on interpretation. Love to have him here because he can fit right in immediately without much of a fuss. Can't say that with the runningbacks we got now.

However, not sure whether he'll be traded or cut. Your right. He's been too valuable Chicago to just let him go just like that.

The cowboys already said they have no interest in Forte. Bogus article.

No they didn't. They can't - he's under contract with another team. It would be tampering. They haven't made any public comment about a player under contract with another team.

Forte's salary is an albatross. Is Chicago actually keeping him?

I wouldn't mind him, he's not the "Forte" of old, but he probably has a year of decent productivity left.

There's no way on earth I'm trading for that salary though.

If the Cowboys are looking for a 30 year old running back that they can get for cheap, they may as well go for Steven Jackson. For one year, with the possibility of a ring in front of him, he could be like Ottis Anderson was to the Giants in 1990. I personally don't think he has much left, though.

Unfortunately, I think they are stuck with what they have presently.

Like not being interested in Hardy?

Maybe on the "second wave" we will be interested in Forte...whatever that means

No one is shunning Rice because he hit a woman, it really has more to do with his perceived declining ability.

Mike Fisher doesn't work for the Cowboys. He doesn't represent the Cowboys. As I said, the Cowboys haven't said anything on the record about a player on another team that is under contract. If they did, they would be brought up on tampering charges.

And, Fisher is also the same guy who insisted that the Cowboys weren't interested in bringing Rolando McClain back, and lo and behold, he came back. I wouldn't use him as proof of anything.

Exactly they should have just kept murray for 8 mil and not lose a pick if they wanted to do this. Forte is a down grade from murray anyways.

Forte is a terrific all around running back. He can do everything that you want a running back to do - except have explosive long range speed. He is also pretty beat up, as not only has he carried the ball a lot in the pros, he had over 900 touches as a collegian at Tulane. If he were a free agent on a short deal, I would definitely consider it. For a trade, no way. For his contract, they may as well have kept DeMarco Murray.

That's it. You can't eliminate the salary from the player.

And to accept that salary on the Cowboy team then Carr would need to be released. Yeah Carr is overpriced but to make the corner position that much weaker for a almost 30 YO running back who only averaged 3.9 YPC last season?

No.
