Broaddus lost a lot of cred from me with that story.
Not a fan of Broaddus
So, if Collins were our first round pick, which he could have, easily and even be labeled a steal--you would still cling to this idea about a "proven player" like Leary?
I doubt it. You are not even being honest with yourself.
You realize their QB was a MVP prediction right?
First off, I would have questioned why they even drafted Collins so high since we have Leary and other needs. And I want competition for EVERY position, I don't care where a player was drafted, the best players should be on the field.
You do realize you just contradicted yourself, right?
On one hand, you question why drafting him so high and then state you value competition for EVERY position.
Unless you advocate drafting for need, I don't see how your stance has much behind it.

That's not a contradiction at all?
You can bring in competition through FA or even later on in the draft. When you have issues at corner, safety, DT, and RB; you don't draft in the first for competition against a player who is playing at a high level.
Nothing contradictory about that. I want competition in camp, not starting jobs handed to players because of where they were selected or what a scout sheet said. Got it now?
Why does everyone assume Collins will replace Leary? Old Man Free could be replaced by Collins as well. No talk of trading him though.
No, not really. Try again.
Well, Free's not really that old as OTs go. He just signed a 3 (?) year extension, and Leary's going to be a free agent after the season. Plus the transition inside to LG ought to be easier for Collins as a rookie. It just makes the most sense.
I don't think the team wanted the risk of extending Leary to the big deal he's likely to get from somebody this coming offseason given the degenerative knee condition and the deals for Frederick and Martin coming up. Leary was the likely odd man out, and getting Collins there for 3 years makes that sort of a no-brainer.
And it lets us develop Chaz Green to take over for Free at whatever point if he's able to, since he's a more natural swing tackle, anyway.
EDIT: re: Forte, I don't want to trade anything of any consequence whatsoever for a 29 year old RB I'm not sure is going to play better than Randle, anyway. I know he's been a very good back in this league for some time, but he's diminishing, and expensive, and those things matter. If anything, I'd rather give up a player we're likely to cut at that end of camp to a team that's got an abundance of RBs and is in the same position, if there's a good fit for us somewhere out there. Otherwise, let's see what we've got before making any moves.
Ah. Yeah a random prediction from a random individual has completely thwarted my previous post. Darn.
I'm just not trusting Green to do anything than be a quality back up. I guess I'll see. I'd rather we keep Leary, let Collins develop into our next RT, trade Free, and kick the tires on what we already have and maybe add Moreno into the mix as well.
