Saw this coming from a mile away.................. Perhaps some of you that jousted with me in the other thread will eventually come to grips with reality. Michael Sam is better (even raw) than anything we have on the active roster at DE right now. For those of you that continue to blindly say, "but he was cut so he must not be good", I refer you to my previous words of rebuttal.

Three preseason sacks on limited time against whatever they threw at him is impressive. Regardless of whether they liked him or not in the draft, he can help this team NOW... I'm going to go out on a slight limb and say many NFL teams (incl our beloved Cowboys) now place a higher value on his speed and athleticism. A guy that can disrupt from the corner regularly is a hot commodity on any of these NFL squads. There's also something about a guy that has "something to prove" that makes that motor run a little faster.

He can immediately start at one of our DE spots. Sad but true. You have mistaken the Rams course of action. They have no less than 6 starting caliber DEs. He would have never seen the field there. We have zero.
That's why it is usually best to have options as a UDRFA instead of being chosen in the 7th round. At least the free agent route allows you to select the best situation at your position out of however many offers.

I know of a few players that have gone on to have long successful careers in the NFL by strategically placing themselves in the right situations as UDRFA. Sam never had that choice. Being drafted in the 7th round by a team loaded at your position is a death sentence if you're not a LB, Safety, RB or otherwise that can excel on STs.

I welcome the guy to the PS with open arms because he can help this team win games. Thanks St Louis for putting him through an extended trial run for us and providing the proof we needed.

I just got home and saw the news. This is going to be interesting. I really hope he develops into a good situational pass rusher but I have my doubts about his limitations on the football field.

Evidently Dallas talked with players about their feeling of this before announcing they would bring in Sam for a physical to sign him. But still he cleared Waivers sunday and will likely be singed Wed to PS again I see no big deal in this and do not see this in any way shape or form as some jerry move. Supposedly a Jerry move is about making money, so how does Sam put money in Jerry pocket? You think Sam jersey sells are going to be selling like hot cakes? Only so called Jerry move I saw even come close was getting JF but evidently Jerry listened to others in the organization and passed on a guy who clearly would have made money for jerry

If they waited because they wanted to take the temperature of the locker room in adding an openly gay player first, then that makes sense. I hadn't thought of that.

Keep in mind, though...with Jerruh constantly lamenting in the public media how he wish he had ignored everyone and drafted Manziel, it makes it more plausible that when he found himself in a similar situation (at least similar in his Jack-soaked mind), he may decide to use his executive privilege and just make a direct order.

This is a terrible move, awards in college don't mean anything to me, this guy isn't that good and his circus isn't worth the trouble because it doesn't match or exceed his talent

So you say he is a jag and cant play. Funny, I dont recall many JAGs getting 3 sacks in the preseason for us.

This is a good move IMO. He can rush the passer and we need help in that area badly. What matters is he can get after the QB, not anything else.

No reason he isn't worthy of a PS spot. Had a nice preseason. He'll come with some distractions but beggars can't be choosers when it comes to that.

I'd take my chances with him rushing the QB situationally against the 49ers over Kyle Wilber.

he's been a consistent pass rush threat in every game he's played.
we all assume he can't be that against NFL first teamers but we could also be wrong.
pass rushers aren't all super fast or super strong or any one thing.
dallas will see how he does here but it would be far form shocking for him to get regular season action at some point.

i support dallas bringing brent back and support playing sam if he earns the spot just the same.
put the best players on the field if they've met legal and league mandated requirements to be there.

I don't think we assume that at all. I think the team is hoping that he can be but at this point, the sacks in preseason don't count, just like the wins and losses don't count and the stats players put up don't go towards their career totals. We don't know if he can produce like that against starting NFL OTs, especially those who are good. If he could, I'd imagine he never would have been cut. He would have at least been traded to a team who could use that kind of help.

Before he can be on the 53, I think he has to learn to play the run much, much better. Right now, he gets abused in that area and you gotta be able to contribute to make the 53. Now, if he can get stronger, play with better technique and learn how to contribute in other areas, while improving as a Pass Rusher, then he can make the travel squad and perhaps even be a potential starter for some team but that day isn't today IMO. Perhaps down the road if he can improve.

The Cowboys need as many pass rushers as they can find. If Sam can develop, it would be a huge win for the team. This is a good job in trying to find a low cost solution.

The media scrutiny won't be that bad after the initial press conference. Who cares about ESPN and what they think?

I guess as more info is starting to filter in we get a clearer picture. As for attention, Cowboys get attention so I'm not concerned with that. Character wise, Sam seems like a quality guy. Hard worker and plays hard maybe more than his true ability but the guy seems to give it his all and as I said seeing him in pre season they guy did some good things on the field. Dallas has endured coke heads, head cases and I'm sure they can contend with an openly gay player.

No more gay comments about this football player please. That includes gay jokes even if they are funny.

Thanks for regulating. As a society, we should be well beyond a certain stage. Can't wait to see this guy wearing the star.

The only media frenzy I see is a bunch of forums posters going on about "distractions".

How many press conferences are help for practice squad signings. I don't think the Cowboys should treat him any differently than any other bubble/PS player.

seems like a no brainer to me. he's a prototypical 4-3 DE and has ACTUALLY produced in the preseason, which is more than I can say for a few other players that were "gifted" a roster spot

all for it, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get meaningful snaps sometime soon
