Some of you didn't even read it. I know that you can't read that fast. lol
some dont like reading more than the title of the thread lol.
I did read it, and he doesnt say much, except he is ok with keeping romo, and that it might just be what happens.
he also implies other teams might not offer much, and that it would be stupid to not get anything.
Also he likes the idea of Romo as bkup.

I feel the same way, either we get something good for romo or we keep him.

Swish that vomit in your mouth.

Then spit it out. Then taste it.

And know you are weak, but not that stupid.

We're not keeping him, but--and I know I'm in the huge minority here--I don't think the idea of letting him compete for his job in camp is farfetched. Yes, Dak's the QB of the future, but after the way Tony handled 2016, I can't see how he can really complain about a challenge in camp. Not after the bullet Tony took last year.

And I think the players would play for either guy, too. It's one think to sit Dak in the middle of an 11-0 run. It's another to pick the best QB coming out of camp and ride with him into the regular season.

I know the team won't do it. I know the risks in letting it happen. No matter what, if they were to do it, they'd have to then trade or release Tony the next year and give the team over to Dak from there. But in terms of what's best of the Cowboys, what's best for Tony, and what would be pretty fun to watch for camp and whoever wins the starting job in the regular season, I wouldn't mind it. There's no shame in Dak sitting for a more experience vet to get his last shot at a ring. And Tony already endured the shame of being benched for a rookie signal caller.

What I don't think is realistic is keeping Tony and not letting him compete. That's just not the way the guy is wired.

All that said, I know it's not 'done'. And I know it's not going to happen. I wouldn't mind seeing it play out, though.
Tony is done in Dallas. Thats the way the NFL works. He will be released and will try to catch on else where...like so many other players over the years. Thats life in the NFL.

I know, but he made some valid points. We shouldn't just let him go for nothing other than a cap break, he gives us an advantage over the entire league.

Release him to the wrong team for a hand full of magic beans and we might see him again.....exactly when we don't want to. Duck tape him to bench, ball gag and all. Make Tony release those pics of Jerry and Jessica Simpson. Something, cause I saw on the internet that magic beans don't work.

what are you saving it for?

we are well under the cap next year already and are FA adverse

There will be players available that can help this team after the initial feeding frenzy of the first few days are over. We would be able to entertain trades. It would also open us for going after a big splash like Kenny Stills if the pro scouts and coaches deem a guy like that is a good fit.

Then of course there is the same potential next year and the year after that because the space is transferrable.

Teams like Denver and Seattle in recent years has shown how it can be done prudently. The former with Talib, Ward, and Sanders and the latter with Avril, Bennet, and Rubin. The Raiders took their time and intelligently built a OL through FA over the course of several years.

As it is right now with Romo on the roster we are going to be able to free up space to pay the rookie class, resign some of our own, and maybe spend modestly in FA. If a good fit that costs a bit more comes along we are going to pass on it because we have Martin's extension and Dak's deal coming down the pipe.

It is time to get going while the getting is good.

Not happening...sorry Mick. Sorry Jerry. Antonio Ramiro Romo will not be in a Cowboys uniform again. He'll be back in another uniform possibly and definitely for his retirement.

Further in 2018 the following players are all FA and will need replacements or to be resigned.

Jason Witten
Doug Free
Demarcus Lawrence
Chris Jones
Kyle Wilber
LP Ladouceur
Keith Smith RFA
La'el Collins RFA
David Irving RFA

and that is after we do all of our signings this year.

Understand what your saying but:

Jason Witten - probably going to retire
Doug Free - please retire
Demarcus Lawrence - is he the water boy? never see him on game day
Chris Jones - resign
Kyle Wilber - bye
LP Ladouceur - resign if he wants to play
Keith Smith RFA
La'el Collins RFA
David Irving RFA

I just hope we don't give him away for nothing cause he is worth more than just cap space.

that is as weak a FA list as it gets
Romo's money is not the key to any plans

We are still a better team with him than without him... the cap space and picks will help but we will still need a bak up QB

i don't necessarily disagree but we already have needs at DE, CB, S, and WR already. You could very easily add another DE, OT, and TE to that list next year in addition to whatever we don't solve the year.

The fact of the matter is that getting three guys that can help you from a draft/UDFA class is ahead of the curve. These cap minimalists are demonstrating a good way to regress.

Haha, full smoke screen in effect now

And really, i'm not sure when his contract is guaranteed, but if you can hang onto him for a bit and wait for a QB to go down, you can probably get more than market value.

All I'm saying is I agree its a good time to take advantage of a cheap franchise QB. But we aren't in any trouble capwise anyway cause we had already planned for Romo's contract. Not like we expected Dak to do what he did.

I also think free agency is going downhill. With the cap going nuts over the next few years, I don't think there will be anything there worth the price in free agency with teams holding onto their own good players.

That is a false dichotomy. The $14m in question can be deployed elsewhere including a backup that costs a third of that or even just roll with Moore or a draft pick. QB is not a big need with a 22 year old well built guy under center like Dak.

Further we can resign one or more each of Church/Wilcox and Claiborne/Carr to modest deals, extend Martin, Irving, Witten, Jones, Smith, and Collins, or sign a good fit like a Kenny Stills or Andre Garcon.

Yup and his contract guarantees the first week of the season so late August. That is what I see as the absolute deadline. There are softer ones like the draft where we could get help this year but immediately after the draft the price goes up.

No need to be premature. I still think Glennon is going to go quickly and teams are going to start getting antsy.

It's been poor for a long time. That doesn't mean that there is no value to be had.

That isn't how it worked with the great Cowboy qbs of the past.

Agreed. Especially with the weak QB market this year.

Teams can play coy all they want about their interest, but once they're feeling a little more pressure that's going to go out the window.

Especially if someone goes down. His value will shoot up.
