Blitz pickup and the element of the complete back is unfortunately grossly underrated. Damarco's brilliance behind our new oline has been the catalyst for a renewed level of comfort in play action situations and the passing game as a whole. If Ryan Williams, Dunbar, or Randle were capable of being the complete back we need they would already be carving out substantial time in the backfield. They're either not ready or not complete. Letting Demarco walk would be a classic 8-8 Cowboys move.

If this is true then either Jerry, Stephen, or both, have lost their minds. Murray is the focus of this offense now and is on a record pace. Maybe Murray sees the writing on the wall and realizes that he will have a better career in Dallas behind that OL. We can hope.

Players who leave Dallas fade into obscurity. Most go off to the Commanders for a year or two until they are cut.

Even Ware is going to fade now that they are getting near midseason. He will strain something, miss a game here and there. He has maybe a year left.

I wouldn't have a problem with him getting something like $5 million a year. I think the corners are very replaceable in this system and we've overpaid Carr and Claiborne needs to go to the scrap heap. We can then get away with paying much less at the corner position. We could probably think about getting rid of Lee because he can't stay on the field.

The length of the contract is the bigger concern for me. But, I do think the Cowboys should drive a pretty hard bargain. It's a league that no longer drafts RB's in the first round, so Murray doesn't have a lot of leverage.

Yeah...the National Chuck-Ball League...sad really. With a properly implemented ZBS, it is said that any decent, disciplined back can do >1,000 yard seasons. If that is indeed the case, then it does not bode well for Murray getting huge money. Still, the guy is something special and the season's most pleasant surprise.

As I've said before, bring up Williams and slowly intro him into the offense and see what he's got. If Murray was a home run threat, I'd pay him, but he's not.

Emmitt wasn't really a home run threat. Durable as hell, excellent hands, good blocking, extremely elusive and relentless. He was caught from behind many times but there was not a back that was more dangerous (except Sanders) during his heyday. I also wonder how offensive line play affected the careers of those "30 and done" running backs.

Fish has been wrong before, but he doesn't really go out of his way to say things if he doesn't believe there's some truth there.

I think they'll see where he is at the end of the year and go from there. I like a 4-year deal with $16M guaranteed. I just hope they don't go with the old "well, Troy Hambrick should be able to run behind this line - anyone could" mentality and end up having a big drop off in production.

Thing about Murray too, is, he's not just a runner. He's a pass catching threat and is an excellent blocker. You pay a little more for the RB that can do it all instead of only doing a little bit.

With this OL you don't need Emmitt, nor do you need to pay for one. Murray is good, but let me see what Williams can do.

As a runner, Murray is easily replaceable.

As a pass protector, he is not.

Therefore, this is a rightly fair offer, but no, don't go any higher.

Well they havent been given the chance. Nobody thought Romo was starting material. Parcells said Romo wouldve gotten cut if Quincey hadnt gotten kicked off the team for drugs. nobody thought Miles austin was starter material until that KC game. Point is you never know until they start to know if theyre starting material.

He's going to want to get paid. He doesn't have many big pay days left, considering the life span of running backs. I say let him get that pay day with some other team. We can get Gurley of Georgia or the back from Wisconsin. No need to break the bank on Murray.

People keep saying this. Those backs are likely to buck the trend and go in the first. At which point you're paying them darn near what you're offering Murray and you burnt a premium pick to do so. That's not very smart.

So considering Murray's skill set, there would be a drop off in protecting Romo.
