His first few years probably were disappointing because he was still learning how to be a DE and was a rookie. His last two years have been solid.

They have. But it wasn't ust ineffectiveness, it was missed time as well.

I think that they will all be pricey. Far higher than many of us expect.

Oh they will be pricey but Ingram is going to dwarf what Perry will get. As pointed out, Spotrac estimated Perry at around $8.5MM per year and Ingram at over $17.2MM.

How is the "money they spent" ridiculous? The operate under the cap just like everyone else. It's not like they spent double what the Cowboys did.

They just chose to allocate money to different areas than other teams do.

  • CB Janoris Jenkins (Signed by Giants; 5-years, $62.5 million)
  • DT Damon Harrison (Signed by Giants; 5-years, $46.25 million)
  • DE Olivier Vernon (Signed by Giants; 5-Years, $85 million)
  • LB Keenan Robinson (Signed by Giants; 1-Year, $3.5 million)
  • LB Kelvin Sheppard (Signed by Giants; 1-Year, $840,000)
  • DT Jermelle Cudjo (Signed by Giants 1-Year, $760,000 salary)
  • CB Leon Hall (Signed by Giants; 1-Year; $2 million)

That is serious money that won no playoff games... bad return on investment.

the cowboys are not stupid, and we were not 13-3 for nothing.
think about this, in the last 3 years, we have records of 13-3 and 12-4 when the QB was healthy for the season.
that is inspite of the D.

FO thinks Jaylon is healthy, and they darn well know they need the war daddy for the DL.
jerry jones said so himself.
you know they can taste probably better than we can.

it is not just the war daddy for the DL, do you sign Mo or sign a more reliable CB?
do you left Free be the turnstile or try to get someone better - his $5M cap hit in 2017 can easily bring in a better RT in a 5 year contract.
do you resign TWill or get a WR2 that catches with his hands for 2M more per year.

Doug Free actually has a 7.5 million cap hit this year. You save 5 million by cutting him.

I don't mean this with any disrespect buy I will have some of whatever you are smoking, because it is really great stuff. They would put a picture of that beside the definition of "cap hell".

There's no such thing. It's a unicorn for owners to hide behind when they don't want to tilt the profit margins past a certain point. Contracts can be structured and restructured in an infinite number of ways to make room for anything you want to do.

Mike Fisher talks about it all the time, and he's right on this.

Again, they were under the cap. So its not like they spent more money than anyone else. They just spent their money in other places that some teams did.

Jerry and Stephen have said several times that they can do anything they really want to in free agency... They just don't want to and don't intend to do that much anymore.
Hardy was the last time they splurged and that didn't work out so well either. They just prefer to wait in FA and pick up any bargains that fall in their lap. No more crazy Deion
contracts or TO contracts is the order of the day.

How does that reply justify their spending in FA and not winning a single playoff game? You'd think that kind of investment would at least get you to the divisional round. Packers and Falcons spent less money on D.

Ingram is 6-2, 265. That's plenty big for a RE
Ingram actually played some DT in college and might have actually looked best inside there.

But he is not an elite pass rusher. Just a very solid one.

Keep in mind Bosa put up 2.5 more sacks this year on the same team playing after a long holdout.

So I'd take Ingram in a heartbeat but he's not a 17m a year guy.

I agree, but I think this might be different.

In recent years, there hasn't been that one clean free agent that very directly addresses an area of need that would make a big impact.

Ingram is that kind of player. He's exactly what Dallas needs, along with a healthy defensive draft.

Imagine adding Ingram, an Alabama defensive lineman, and Jaylon Smith to the front 7.
If we sign Ingram we basically negate conditional top FA returns for Leary et al.
So you basically spend 17m per year plus give us a 4th round pick.
Naww, not a good move.

people have been conditioned by past salary cap problems...

market price is market price based on supply and demand.
lol if you want to play, you have to pay
which again is why players are overpaid.
if you are the highest bidder you essentially have overpaid.
this is why teams prefer to sign their own and early extend.

but you save a 1st round pick that you can use elsewhere

I get it. I think it's been two solid years though.... he was good the year prior to his contract year. I'd take the risk. Even knowing the risks.

That's cool. It's not my preference, but we all have our own opinion on what we'd like.

First they have to clear the cap room to put the Open sign on the front door. Can't compete with other teams until that happens.
Long time since I burst out laughing at one of your posts.

Well done sir.

Not sure how a guy that has been playing in a 3-4 for the past 5 years"fits the scheme perfect." I'm not saying Ingram couldn't play in our system, its just a weird thing to put out there with no evidence.

Hopefully Jerry's "war daddy" talk puts us in the market for Ingram or someone similar, but I have serious doubts. Shelling out $15+M for 1 free agent doesn't seem in the current FO's m.o. anymore. I suspect we'll see Ware back or some other washed up vet that signs fairly cheap. Maybe Charles Johnson.

As much as I bang on the "Dallas won't spend in free agency" drum... I think Ingram could be a viable target for Dallas.

the giants problem is they are not drafting good olinemen, their top 10 pick LT is a bust and they are thinking of moving him to guard.
