Everyone knew Lance was being shopped. We discussed it here. Jerry very easily could have gotten McCarthy‘s opinion in the event San Francisco called or the Cowboys decided to make a call. Jerry was making this trade whether McCarthy liked it or not.
Do we know Jerry and McCarthy hadn't discussed the possibility before the Niners called?

Jerry’s MO as a GM has been heavily criticized over the years. He always finds ways to undermine his head coaches. I’ve never heard of an HC not being told by the owner that they were making a trade for a QB. Head coaches are usually in the loop when a trade for a player is going to be made. Jerry adds players to the team whether his HC wants the player or not. Bill Parcells didn’t want TO but he had no say in the matter. He said Jerry wanted him and that he’s the owner.
Again though, why all the shock and awe and outrage. If he would do it to Bill P, why would anyone be clutching pearls over him doing it to MM. He knew what he was signing up for.

He asked his opinion of Lance but hardly anyone thought the Cowboys were going to trade for him. I’m sure even McCarthy thought a trade was highly unlikely.
If a GM ask a coach his opinion on a player he should know the GM is interested in that player. I'm not a jerry fan but he doesn't have to tell MM he is trading for a third string QB. It doesnt affect the starting lineup.

The head coach has the right to know you’re trading for a QB. It doesn’t have to affect the starting lineup to have an affect on your team.

What effect do you think it will have on the team? Are they going to be worse off because of it?

He informed Parcells he was bringing in TO and that didn’t involve a draft pick. It wasn’t a trade, TO was a free agent. When Jerry traded a third round pick for Drew Henson he informed Parcells. When Jerry makes a trade and says he didn’t tell his HC until after he made the trade there’s going to be some criticism. The reaction amongst fans and social media was very predictable. Had Jerry made a trade without telling Jimmy there would’ve been fireworks! Lol

I’m not saying it will have an affect on the team, but it could. Some in the organization could see it as Jerry looking to replace Dak at some point. It could show he’s losing some confidence in him. A lot can be read into a trade for a QB, especially one that was taken number three overall just two years ago.

But a sound mind should know that he was not here to take Dak's job, and if they do think that then it's their personal problem. But as far as team continuity for this season I would think that he will not be a distraction. He may never see the field this season, or hell, maybe not even next season except for preseason.

As for you stance that he did not tell MM, I sort of agree he should have at least told him before the trade went down, but maybe it needed to be a quick decision and MM might have been on the field with the team or something...hell, I don't know. I know there are some posters thinking Lance is here to save the day, but IMO he is just here for a new lease on life.

McCarthy may have given his evaluation of Trey Lance, but Jerry never asked him if he would be on board with the Cowboys making the trade for him. Jerry said he never told anyone he was making the trade until after they made it. This is what’s created the stir.
But that doesn't mean MM was never involved.

Again....we have people mocking and making fun of cooper rush. Dak crusaders even called for us to tank 2022 when Dak went down. Coop would never win a single game.

SO not only did Coop win those games (yes D played good but Coop made it easy for them)....but when we upgraded these same guys are yet again mad.

It just doesn't make any sense. They can't even really complain about the deal....they had to find some weird comment Jerry made, that doesn't even really define the entire situation.... to justify their crazed anger.

So are you even more hyped up for Dak to fail so bad this season. So you can start on a Lance for QB.
I have not seen you comment on this too much lately. But then again I been super busy the last month, so may have missed it.

What are your thoughts on Lance? Can you give us an analysis.

For me I love this trade. Now what will Jerry and Stephen do. Not this season, but going into next season. There will be many of interesting discussions and arguements from it, as it has already started.

I really would like to see him play at some point this season, but not due to injury.
You think he's a stupid troll eagles fan....why are you even engaging?

McCarthy was involved in the evaluation of Trey Lance a couple years ago during the draft. Jerry never said he asked McCarthy if he would be on board with trading for Lance. He could’ve easily got out of the situation by saying they discussed the possibilities of trading for him and that McCarthy was on board with it if a deal could be struck. This is a situation where Jerry wants all the credit for doing something. If Trey Lance were the pan out, Jerry will get all the glory. Jerry once took credit for a trade that Jimmy made. Jimmy talked about it in an interview and admitted he got angry when he heard on TV that Jerry took credit for the trade. Jerry made it sound like Jimmy had no involvement in the trade when he actually made the trade. Lol What’s going on is typical Jerry Jones.

Okay....so lets just get to it then.

Do you like this deal or not? Why do you like...or not like it. (Leave Jerry's comment out....for now.)

Yes, I like the deal. It was worth the risk for a 4th round pick. I said days before the trade went down that I would give a 5th round pick for Lance. Had we given up more than a 4th round pick I wouldn’t have liked it. However, the odds on it working out for us isn’t very likely. You really never see a QB go bust, then get traded or released and turn out great for another team. I’m referring to QBs that went completely bust within 2 to 4 years. Usually what caused those QBs to go bust start showing up with their next team. San Francisco had to think Trey Lance was completely hopeless to move on from him after only two seasons, after giving up three number one picks and a third. They were willing to take whatever they could get for him. Mark my words Jerry will find a way to get Lance on the field this season, even if it’s as a situational QB for a play or two. He even said in his interview the trade could pay dividends this season. Stay tuned!

Trey Lance is not going to have an adverse effect on the Dallas Cowboys. Players are professionals. They’ll treat Lance like one and he’ll treat them like professionals. There is a truth to come to terms with. When the 49ers saw what Lance did as a college player and subsequently met with him, they swapped firsts and gave two more firsts and a third to acquire him. After he was in their organization for two years they decided to trade him to the Cowboys for a fourth round draft choice. There is more reason to believe Trey Lance will never start a game for the Dallas Cowboys than there is he could ever be a proficient starting quarterback in the NFL. Many here have him going to the Hall of Fame already. Dak Prescott knows he’s the Cowboys’ quarterback now and in the near future. And if anyone has “leverage” now it’s Dak. It will be pay me or hand the ball to Cooper and Trey. He’ll get a monster deal.

Well, we all know Dak is here to stay for a year or two more. Lance is nothing but an after thought as of now.
