Seems to me like what he did for Dallas last year ought to count for something. That's what's important now. At least, give him some incentives, if nothing else.

Here's an incentive, "show up or consider yourself done in Dallas".

He was never a longterm guy. He was a stopgap and that's it. The team shouldn't give him anything.

Sorry, but that's the reality for some players.

Well, it certainly appears to be reality for you. Let's see if the FO agrees with that before we decide for them.

No. Not the people here. Jeremy friggin Mincey holding out.

I've seen it all.

H-m-m -- guess you didn't like nor appreciate what he did last year, huh? To each his own. Let's see what the FO has to say about this. Maybe they'll agree with you or maybe not. I can easily live with it either way.

The bottom line - regardless if he has every right to employ this tactic is besides the point. The Cowboys cannot continually fold every time a player wants more money. At some point, they have to say enough is enough...especially when it is for a guy with his best years in the rearview.

Perhaps much depends upon what his expectations are regarding this matter. If it's too much, they'll let him go. If not, maybe they'll choose to throw him a bone or whatever they deem appropriate. Whatever's right for both. If they feel bowing to his demands would be setting a bad precedent, he'll be released. Whatever works best for all concerned is fine with me.

They don't have to let him go until he wants to report. They can use all this time to evaluate the other DEs and once he comes back he may or may not have a roster spot.

Thinking about this again I think he just doesn't like or doesn't think he needs training camp and wants to miss a few weeks. The guy in general seems to carry a high opinion of himself and is a self proclaimed leader. In general this just tells me he is not on board with the work ethic being instilled in this team.

We discussed Mincey's holdout in our podcast. Puzzling. He's a 31 year old journeyman, on a team with a director of pro scouting and defensive coordinator that lately have been able to find and get the most out of journeymen.

The team also has a returning Tank Lawrence, highly-rated rookie Randy Gregory, and arguable best in football Greg Hardy at defensive end.

Lastly, by being released, the team can save $1.5M in cap space. A player like Dwight Freeney would surely come in and provide spell duty and take limited snaps for $1.5M, and probably happily.

I don't get it. I think it's a bad holdout.

There seems to be several assumptions involved here. Not so sure you're seeing this accurately but whatever.

I agree entirely. I would cut him immediately.

I wouldn't.

Cut him and watch him run to New York and help their efforts to replace Pierre-Paul? No thanks.

Cutting him would be the last thing I would do.

If it's, indeed, a bad holdout, it's a good bet the FO will elect to send him packing. If not, they'll decide otherwise. It all depends how valuable they see Mincey in their eyes and if they're willing to deal with him. We can hash and rehash this until hell freezes over. Ultimately, it's their decision. Whatever happens, I'll respect the FO's wishes.

I'd just keep him deactivated until he decides to show up. Only hurting his own bottom line. His biggest impact is as a "veteran leader" and in all honesty, other guys will need to step into that role while actually producing.

Hope you kept in shape, "Mr. Mince"!

I think this will get resolved. I don't see Dallas doing much in terms of his contract but I do think Mincy is a big asset to the Cowboys DL. During OTA they have been using him at DT and frankly I think that combination with guys like Hardy, Gregory and DLaw could be very effective.

Get him a Chuck E. Cheese endorsement deal or something, and call it even.

Here's an interesting statistic that might open some eyes:

JPP had 38 QB Hurries in 2014. He played 981 Defensive snaps.

Jeremy Mincey had 37 QB Hurries in 2014. He played 724 Defensive snaps.

One of those guys has recently suffered a serious injury and still has an offer of nearly $15 million on the table. Do we really want to cut our player and make him available to that 'other' team over $1 million or so?

Post by Mike Fisher at the ranch.

OXNARD - Jeremy Mincey posted some solid numbers on the field for the 2014 Cowboys. He's preparing to miss the start of training camp while hoping for more solid numbers in his contract,

The Cowboys and incumbent sack leader Mincey have spend the offseason working on an extension. But it's not done -- so Mincey is not yet here with the team to start training camp.

Mincey, 31, signed a two-year deal worth $3 million in 2014 that included $2 million guaranteed. That made him a bargain for Dallas, especially as he came in late: In the final five games of the 2014 season (including playoffs), Mincey recorded 20 tackles, five sacks and 12 QB hurries. In fact, he had 37 QB hurries in 724 regular-season snaps in 2014. To put that in perspective, New York's Jason Pierre-Paul had 38 QB hurries in 981. Mincey actually averaged more QB hurries per snap in 2014 than stars like Ware, Allen, Peppers, Robert Quinn, JPP, Wake and Mario Williams (to name a few).

The Cowboys have added a trio of ends - Greg Hardy, DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory - who might eventually push Mincey down the depth chart. But his six sacks led the team last year and he is a team leader in the locker room as well.

If Mincey does not report to camp by Wednesday, he could face daily fines (based on his signing bonus) of $30,000. That - and progress in negotiations - could compel him to rejoin the Cowboys, who according to CHQ calculations presently have about $11.9 million in cap room. The Cowboys have likely earmarked some of that money for an extension for Mincey linemate Tyrone Crawford.
