Mo Claiborne or Bobby Wagner?

I don't think i made an assumption in that post. Perhaps you meant, expectation?

Either way, nothing i said there was as ridiculous as you think. ;)

We gave up alot to trade up for a guy Jerry told us was going to be one of the greats. I'd have much rather taken Jenkins and Wagner and called it a day. I don't know if Clai is eventually going to be one of the best corners in the league. I certainly hope he will, but as of right now, its hard not to regret staying put when seeing the production we could have had from other corners in that draft combined with Wagner being outstanding in his first year, as well.

I don't think we gave up a lot at all. We essentially moved up and gave away a 2nd round pick.

That's it.

I was actually surprised that was all we gave up.

I honestly wouldn't go back in time and change a thing. My face lit up when we traded up for Morris. He and Brandon are going to be the best tandem in football. What marinelli did for the bears is what he's going to do for us

I was referring more to the talent that we gave up to get Mo, more than just the actual draft position. Didn't make that clear though, my bad.

Simple question, i was wondering what some of my fellow Cowboys fans thoughts were on this.

If we could do it over again (I know), would you rather move up again to get Mo Claiborne or would you rather keep our picks and take Janoris Jenkins and Bobby Wagner?

My choice would still be the latter.

Wagner all day, based soley on last year. I wasn't impressed by Claiborne in the least, considering what we paid to move up for him.

I would rather seen Dallas trade back and get more picks than trade up. They could have had Cordy Glenn, Osemele and Wagner instead of just Mo. That is two very good olinemen a one very good LB. Three good players is much better than one.

Brockers and Wagner in your scenario

I wanted a trade down and pick up DeCastro with the ability to still perhaps pick up konz and heyward who is likely a better CB than Mo

Imagine a starting OL with smith DeCastro and konz last year
And still have the starting CB in heyward

Would not gamble on janoris Jenkins

But I like Eskimo's scenario as well with coples and Wagner

Like I said at the time, I would have never made the move up for Claiborne. When the defenders of it tried to excuse it by saying we would have taken Brockers and Wagner had we not, I said I'd take that in a second over Claiborne.

That was a horrible decision by a front office that doesn't have it's priorities in order.

IMO, of course. Go Cowboys.

Wants hilarious about this whole exercise is that most on this board would have had a meltdown if we drafted Brockers and Wagner. Blissful hindsight is an amazing thing.

This thread reminds me of Ware vs Merriman after one season and so many fans on here preferred Merriman over Ware but how did that turn out, lol

Not ready to even thin about this because the development curve. Ask me after year 3 in their careers.

You should be able to answer the question on draft day. Not now. Not in three years.

Personally, I'm never going to draft a CB that high. It's a waste of resources.

I'm very happy with the Claiborne pick. People must have forgot how much worse the corner position was the prior season. We actually had a top 10 defense before tons of guys started getting injured. There was no guarantee Mike Jenkins wanted to be here.

He made an impact in the result of that Eagles game, for sure. Not nearly as much of an impact as some of the other rookie corners though. For a guy hyped as the best CB prospect since Deion, i think some of us just expected him to at least show us more flashes of greatness in his first year.

This isn't to say that he still won't be one of the greats, but so far we haven't seen much at all to indicate that. When you trade up and give up that much, you almost have to get a guy who will make a big immediate impact.

Speak for yourself.

He was a rookie.

Jenkins & Wagner, based on last years production. I worry if Mo will ever be what we really want. Did not show me much last year.

Not showing you much was also a good thing... Mo gave up what? 3 TDs

One on a absolutely perfect pass from Cutler to Hester

Frankly Roy, I want to wait several years and see what Dallas truly got.

My belief is if Mo works out, then I am happy. I think he has a huge upside and his rookie year isn't indicative of what he will eventually bring to the table.

I understand the concern, and that this is the off season and what ifs are fun.

But I also believe he has a potential to be one of the best in the game at some point down the road.

Yea, these others guys we're talking about in this thread were rookies, too.

Fair enough, let's hope he can blossom into that type of player. That's certainly what the front office tried to sell the fan base on after making the move to trade up for him.
