All that said I'm still waiting to see the Knicks take an identifiable direction. Do you just build a large young roster... add assets who you can package in trades? keep trying the big fish free agency route?
At this point they gotta stop trying to fly imho and just walk in a winning direction. They've been roster building like they are the island of misfit toys.

I agree, personally I don't ever want to see us go all in for a free agent the way we have in the past. Just build through the draft, I can literally wait another 10 or more years...I'm good

Looks like Knicks are getting Hayward.

But yea I know the feeling. Mavs fans died on vine 3-4 years in a row playing plan powder.
Then turned out to be lucky not to have made those massive deals as the FA's they star chased bombed.

If you aren't getting a clear cut top 5 guy then they are probably massively overrated in FA if getting paid max money.

23 per seems reasonable if Hayward can stay healthy.

Hayward basically doubling his guaranteed money and if he plays well can get another deal in 2-3 years.
Knicks get a name brand FA.

Hayward. I can see the Knicks chasing. Cant see Hayward going there for that money. I can see him taking that deal from Indiana or Boston if he is open to coming back, but not a team that is gonna be in the lottery even with him. I think the Knicks would have to offer him alot more than that. Atlanta I could see as a possibility

No offense meant to you here but that feels to me like wishful thinking. The 2 day extension of time to decide his opt-in was probably the target area of to get a deal done. Once he opted out and became a FA that changes things quite a lot.
Now FA teams with money can offer whatever. Deals are made based on very specific numbers that have far more trouble changing.
Hayward didn't opt out without knowing he was gonna make far more than 34M.

He is from Indy. Thats been the driving force of all the Indy rumors. That Knicks offer if its legit, all three of Boston, Indy and Atlanta would match that and would he more desirable for him (that is unless he doesnt want to be the 4th option in Boston. He would team with Sabonis and make the playoffs with Indy or team with Young amd contend for the playoffs in Atlanta. In NY, he would just be a guy keeping a team from a better lottery pick. He may go to NY, but I think they would have to offer him significant more than the other three do

23 would probably be Turner and McDermott or Lamb. Easier to make that deal than having to find a way to include VO, or Warren on top of what else we would have to compensate them with. And Warren was probably untouchable after the bubble

I will say I think the Knicks could be a possibility of they could make a significant follow up move. Preferably with costing them Barrett or Toppin (who at 22 should be able to contribute to a team trying to win games)

The trade of Kanter might well create the TPE to make it work if he wants to go to Indy.
Indy is still trying and yes he is from there but he's been outside the state a long time.

They were able to get off the big money of Russ and then CP3 which was a massive sigh of relief to the owners.

Good point. But CP was glue to surrounding casts and made the team so much better. Like Chauncey Billups back in the day. No idea why a team would get rid of a player like that. just throwing a bunch of good players at the roster doesn’t make it a good team.

I think its one of those situations where they would prefer getting something for an asset. Personally Im not gloom and doom over losing Hayward for nothing if that happens. It gets us under the tax and we won four playoff series without him the last three years. I dont really think we are in our championship window yet. I think our real window is when Tatum and Brown are halfway through their 2nd contracts and some of our picks the last few years have matured
