Sigh. College coaching is completely different than pros. Jimmy Jones was the exception, who drafted great and got a ton for herschel walker. Pete Carroll was CRAP the first time he came to the NFL. It took him in total many seasons to figure it out. Good luck with Urban Meyer. SMFH.

Exactly what NFL retread has skins on the wall?

People have to stop thinking a coach can't win at the NFL level because he's a #CollegeCoach or a #Retread or an unproven coordinator. There are multiple examples of successes and failures for each of those categories.

Don't like retreads? Bill Belichick was fired by the Browns in 1995. Tony Dungy was fired by the Bucs.

College coaches? Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer (although the latter can thank the former for an amazing roster).

How about a college coach and a retread? Pete Carroll was fired by the Jets and Patriots before finding major success at USC.

Promoting an unproven coordinator? Doug Pederson was only an OC for 3 years. Mike Tomlin was a DC for just 1. Sean Payton was saved from being fired in New York by Parcells. He was an OC and QB Coach before getting the Saints job. John Harbaugh was never an OC or DC, he was a ST Coordinator before landing the Ravens gig.

Hire the coach that best gives the Cowboys a chance to win Super Bowls. Whether that is Urban Meyer or Lincoln Riley (college), Greg Roman (coordinator), or Josh McDaniels (retread/coordinator) or someone else. I personally just want a coach with the technical knowledge to win games, the command to demand respect from this roster, and the authority to overcome the unfortunate Jerry factor.

I'll know if the next head coach has a real chance or not if he is given full autonomy to hire his entire assistant coaching staff.

I still don't understand this interest in Urban Meyer. The guy is sleezy. Covered up domestic violence for his coach for years. What the.....?

I would love to see Riley here, especially since we're likely stuck with Dak. He did wonders with Baker, Kyler, and Hurts, so maybe he's the quarterback whisperer we need for Dak.
because he is a winner... could win now with the talent / youth window...

dak is not the answer. not a super bowl winning qb. cannot make throws downfield consistently.

Some people don't understand getting same ol same ol run downs, has beens and never was type coaches that litter NFL right now.

P.S. having NFL coaching experience is overrated IMO. Needs new blood and creativity. These college coaches have to deal with losing old talent and getting new talent everyday.nothing to sneeze at if they do it well. Urban Meyer has

I was listening to 105.3 the Fan and they had Jane Slater on and she shared that Stephen has had meetings with Urban Meyer, Lincoln Riley, and Tony Elliot.

She said she still believes JG will be a HC for another team in the league but that the writing is on the wall.

Just wanted to share!

dear goodness I want JG to be a coach in the nfl after us, and I want to play his new team 16x per season.

Nailed it. I’ve been telling all my eagle hater friends Jimmy J came from the college ranks. Urban Meyer is just a winner

OK, name the head coach that is both an offensive and defensive guru and can fix all of a football team with his playbook.

Dak is not a good passing quarterback. Same went for Jalen Hurts. Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield were transfers. Look what Riley did with them. Two Heismans, two first overall picks, and a guy this year that can suddenly pass.

Can he do that with Dak?

He can then go find his Saleh type guy for DC.
Jalen Hurts still can't pass worth a darn.

Meyer is a top recruiter. Not a top coach.

Ohio State got better when he left.

You don't recruit in the NFL.
You can keep saying it but that doesn’t mean it’s true.

Meyers record his first 2-3 years at every program he coaches were phenomenal. His recruits hadn’t even had time to take over the team and yet the teams were winning big time.

Go ahead and prove me wrong. What’s his record at Ohio State and Florida his first 3 years at the programs? Or Utah? He took some coach that got fired recruits and turned them into winners.

whatever Meyer did to you personally really stung I guess.

Utah is winning right now. Probably headed for the playoff.
More proof of what he did for these programs. His success has a lasting effect on the reputation as a football power that makes recruiting easy for future coaches.

Tony Elliott is a college assistant coach at Clemson.

*For anyone else wondering who he was.
Thanks, agree, I've never heard of him. Maybe we need a new quality control coach that he can fill in as. No way should he be the next HC.

Man, we’re not asking him to come over for dinner or to watch our kids when we go out.

I just want my team to win. He gives us the best chance imo. As long as he’s not a current member of isis I’m ok with him.

Exactly...…..he aint going to be babysitting my young daughter, just beat a team over .500 every once in a while.

There are a lot, I mean a lot of Ohio State players in the NFL that played for Meyer...…..that could be a boon in free agent recruiting.

Urban Meyer also doesn't lose to every team over .500 he plays...….cough, Clappy, cough

He’d also have ballhawking DBs. Hooker, Lattimore, Apple all came from Ohio State and his team averaged over 15 INTs per season.

I don’t care if Dallas played Purdue 13 times a year, the technique taught makes getting 10+ INTs a near impossibility.

You know when you look at a time share invitation that says you are guaranteed a prize for showing up and it's a Range Rover, $10,000, European Vacation or a steak dinner? You talk about how cool it would be driving around in a new car, but you know you're going to end up just driving your Dodge Stratus to Golden Corral.

When it's released, prepare yourself to look at Jerry's leaked short list for HC candidates the same way.
