Not discounting what you said but shear numbers increase your odds of hitting on draft picks. The Dickerson trade didn't result in the numbers the Walker trade did.

You may want to check that one again. The Rams got a kings ransom for Dickerson, and blew the whole lot.

Please. Jimmy brought something new. It got old. You couldn't get the players he valued by trading back anymore.

It's a typical college guy deal. Comes in and is effective for a few years.

The best pro coaches are able to keep that up year after year

Ehhh........... no

I don't want to make it seem like I'm making excuses, but this article needs balance.

On the flip side, what other team has drafted 5 all pros in the first 3 rounds since 2010? And that's not even including Sean Lee.

And what team has gotten Ron Leary, La'el Collins, and Cole Beasley as undrafted free agents?

One, I don't think anyone quibbles that we've done better in the first and second rounds.

Two, you can't count Collins as a UDFA. He was a first round talent that had an off the field issue that pushed him off draft boards. As a free agent, we were his top choice. So let's not act like we discovered him. We simply got lucky.

Jimmy Johnson and the staff he brought with him was some of the best talent evaluators in the game. Fans can say what they want, but Jimmy made the 90's teams and he deserves credit for every bit of it. He did a good job with the Dolphins as well. Jimmy had the ability to get the most out of his players and he put them in a position where they could use their talents to the best of their ability. Nobody compares to him in this team's history other than Landry.

Jimmy and his staff built those SB teams. Jerry and his ego tore and down. I finally had hope when he hired Parcells that he had finally got it out of system and was ready to try and win again. But that was short lived. After BP left Jerry went right back to hiring stooges that wouldn't overshadow him. We've paid the price for most of the last 20 years. I just hope that once Stephen fully takes over he won't have the ego of his dad and disdain against hiring powerful HC's for fear of not getting credit. Maybe then we'll be willing to do whatever it takes to win again instead of just paying lip service to it.

Interesting article and hard to dispute that the Cowboys hasn't drafted well.

However, in the article there were some major players missing.....Patriots and Broncos What it says is that there's more than one way to skin the cat. To me If you have 7 round draft picks you need to hit >50% starters. Doesn't matter which rounds just need to hit them or else you won't be able to field a good team over the long term. Simple concept but hard to carry out.

The other missing piece is COACHING. Major neglect.... how many games did we lose because of coaching?! sad indeed.

People overlook the talent Jimmy inherited:
Irvin
Newton
Tui
Jeffcoat
Norton Jr
KMart
Grogan
Bates

Plan B Free Agents: Jay Novacek, James Washington

Trade: Charles Haley

2 HOF And 20 pro bowls that didn't come from Jimmy's drafts.

And Troy would've been drafted by Dallas if the Landry regime would've stayed in place. A lot of dominoes fell perfectly for Jimmy in Dallas, see he wasn't as fortunate in Miami!

Truth

Jimmy did good in Miami? He never put together a legit contender in Miami. #Truth

Huh?

You can always get players you want trading back especially if it's in the later rounds. It never gets old, it's just you hope that player turns out to be that player you traded back for.

The point was he wanted smaller guys with good speed. At the time players like that were undervalued which is why they remained on the board.

And no, you can't always get the guys you want by trading back.

That is damning evidence.

Fan Boys won't like that one bit.

I guess that doesn't also include non-drafted players that did make the Pro Bowl...or having the most of any the past six seasons, making either the Pro Bowl OR Pro Bowl players.

So it's okay to constantly miss in the middle rounds as long as you make up for it by getting lucky on a few UDFA's ?

Why not get better at drafting in the later rounds AND hit on UDFA ?

I would argue that jimmy MADE most of those players, few of them were above average before jimmy got hold of them

There are ONLY so many starters and top shelf players that a team has access...but I don't think I would indignantly walk around checking for foul smelling feet and then declaring they should have been taken care of, instead. If that isn't understood, spend time on the block to pick up normal types of value comparisons on a low level.

The Cowboy lead both in top of draft selections AND in signing of significantly producing non-drafted players. Yea, you bet, we should storm the bastile if everything doesn't line perfectly planned. You bet, reserve a ***** line seat before the rush.

As to middle to late round, care to do a personal review on line, on just HOW that has been over the past two seasons. See if you can pass your own disclaimor levels.

I don't agree at all, and have shown two areas the team is at the highest level in the NFL. Your quarter...
