Having a running game is only important so far as to have balance; so the defense has to honor it enough. The raw numbers do not matter.

If running the ball is the key to a championship, than why are there only two running backs in NFL history to win the rushing title AND the Super Bowl in the same season? They are Emmitt Smith and Terrell Davis; and both did so in an different era, the 1990's.

In fact the Colts once won the Super Bowl ranked dead last in rushing. And a five win Browns team was near the top that same season.

Truth time: so long as you are effectively moving the ball, converting on 3rd down, and scoring, you are winning games. Whether you rush for 180 yards or 80.

That was the 31st ranked run defense we were up against today. It's not a coincidence he had his best game of the year.
It wasn't Pollard's best game this season.

Looks like the Panthers are the 24th ranked run defense based purely on rushing yards allowed. Dallas put up 124 rushing yards on the Patriots earlier this year. The Pats are the 8th ranked run defense.

Everyone thinks we are on a roll and we're not. Beating bad teams by throwing all day long. Wait till we play a real team and everyone will see our running game sucks and we'll lose..the end
Thank you.............. I've been chirping about this all year long! Big deal we beat another "Bottom of the Barrel" team that held us to 17 points though 3 quarters doing it. There's still a lot of work to be done before the Boys can compete against the elite teams in the league. Our Running game is a joke, when it's compared to the 9ers, Eagles and Detroit's run games. It's going to be one and done come the playoffs if this team can't at least muster up a lousy 100 yd run game for our starting RB when we're going up against 1-9 teams. The elite teams have outstanding defensive linemen who love to tee off when they know their opponents can't run the ball and when that happens to the Cowboys, Prescot goes into his "Dead Stare" look because he can't handle the pressure these elite teams bring every down.

Pollard averaged 5.1
correct but 5.7 LOL and Rico dowlde 4.5., so 5.0 for both of them combined... I mean we need to work on it but yeah I mean it wasn't that bad I mean people were act like it was bad, right now we have an average running game but it's not bad... I think the offensive line needs to continue working on it and it will improve as the season goes on...

Correct because this year we are basically throwing the set up the run and when it becomes apparent they need to back off and cover more of our back end our run game will pick up.. And from what I remember this is pretty much what a West Coast offense looks like you throw shorter passes you you throw passes to set up the run and then you run when it's convenient but you don't necessarily run a lot... I mean if you look at San Francisco from the 90s but even now they have that same type of offense they just utilize their weapons more but if you notice the passes behind the line of scrimmage out to the edges the short stuff those are all considered a run game when you're in a West Coast style offense.. So as long as you're moving the ball who cares how we're doing it because if a team over adjusts one way or the other you make them pay...

We would have beat the eagles if we had acquired Derrick Henry
Actually, Dallas would have beaten the Eagles if they didn't allow two sacks and have a holding penalty after having 1st and goal at the 6 yard line in the final minute of the game.

Pollard had 47 yards against the Pats. His best game total yards was actually against AZ which I forgot about. This was his best game on avg yards per carry.

I don't disagree. the run blocking is horendous. I don't like the new run blocking scheme. we have martin, smith, smith and play zone blocking scheme. as opposed to power ball. get your hands on the defender and just control him.
The run blocking is not horrendous. Our backs are.

I don’t think anyone has feasted on bad teams like the Cowboys. The best teams they’ve beaten are the Jets and Chargers and they’re both 4-5.

You're not paying attention then.

Who has Miami beaten of note?
Detroit other than KC wk 1?
Seattle?
Philadelphia's best W is vs DAL as is SF's.

So yes we need to beat good teams but we are zero different in taking games to put us in that position to play in meaningful games.

If that's the case then I don't understand why Mike is sticking with it. There's hardly ever any lanes for Pollard.

My guess is that this run block scheme helps in the passing game. No idea how though.

Exactly my brother when you can run the ball at the six you don't have to drop back and risk getting sacked. And probably not have a holding penalty.

But you're right we could still probably jump off sides and screw up the running game too even with Derrick Henry
