What an amazing signing..
You tell yourself whatever you need to.
This is a vain attempt to put perfume on a pig.
Don't waste time and effort trying to defend it.
In fairness I saw NOBODY even remotely compare him to Deion unless it was in jest.
Most people did not like it. I am sure there were some that did but there are some that will like any move.
But let's not make it out like most thought he was a great player and a great signing and that we got a steal or something.
Agreed.
He was signed as a guy they thought wasn't just going to be a stop gap, but part of a solution at CB along with adding some young talent. If you want a stop gap, then you go out and find a guy on a one year deal - Patrick Robinson, someone of that ilk. They thought Carroll was a bit of a player. That's pretty obvious.
As I said above, in reality, the simplest answer is usually the right one. They overvalued Carroll. They put more value in their "scheme fit" and Marinelli wanting this guy as a solution in his press for more zone coverage. When in reality, he was a bad CB who was cut free by a team last year that had a worse secondary than we did and headed into the 2017 offseason with even more question marks at CB than we did.
In other words, the front office made a poor personnel decision here.
I think his point is that once he was signed, many of those who are more prone to defend the organization started justifying the signing claiming he was a better scheme fit, he was misused in Philly, Marinelli knows defense and if he wanted him then he's worth the money, etc.
There were more people than you think that thought this was a smart signing.
You can learn a lot from bad experiences. Live a little.Rather have no experience over bad experience
And instead of sticking with a poor decision. like they have done in the past.
The cut bait and moved on.
Silver lining IMO
BUT at the same time...If Jourdan Lewis would not be playing as well as he has...chances are Nolan would probably still be on the roster.
Thanks JL.

Hey, I am a happy camper that they cut bait with him this soon. My fear was they would write this season off to injuries and in 2018, if Marinelli was back, Carroll would be out there again playing a significant role in the secondary.
As crappy as he is, he probably is a better Zone corner than man.
But again, people start trying to make a point but then they jump into flights of fancy and high hyperbole and ruin the argument.
Seen nobody even remotely compare him to Deion or the like.
That's my ONLY point.
Take it or not.
He was using hyperbole with the Deion Jr. comment. I don't think he truly believed people were comparing him to Deion. Only to say that once he was signed, those who are hard wired to defend the organization started acting like Carroll was actually a nice little player.
I am really hoping these young DBs pan out. They have really shown flashes and if they do pan out, we really have hit a good draft, lucky or not.
Buffalo replaced and fixed their secondary in one off-season.
Signed Micah Hyde in free agency.
Signed Jordan Poyer in free agency.
Drafted Tre'Davious White in 1st round.
Traded for EJ Gaines.
Not even big names. Just good players and actual results.
It can be done.
You tell yourself whatever you need to.

Hyde was a guy I was hoping we'd look at to replace Church.
Who are the free agent safeties next year?
Hyde is a good player, yeah.
It may or may not have been a dumb signing.
The method of drafting and developing has.
Lol. Or else you quit reacting to things that aren't actually being said.
