No, he's hoping Garrett finally figures it out, but if he continues to lose, then he hopes Garrett loses big enough to get himself canned.

Exactly right. Just asking for some accountability, and that's not too much to ask at all. If Garrett succeeds, he should rightfully reap the benefits by keeping the job. If he's fails, he should rightly be held accountable for not getting the job done. Coaches and assistants league-wide are held you that standard, why should the Cowboys head coach be any different?

Heck, the Cowboys just fired an assistant coach after 7 games , and Jerry Jones talked about "high standards". It's blatantly hypocritical to hold an assistant to those high standards after 7 games and allow a head coach - who should be much more responsible for things than anyone - to skate by after 8-plus years.

That would, most likely, mean they won the East, the first goal of any season. No way Booger fires him then but I do not think he will get fired, even if they go 6-10 like Nate said.

I do not share the belief that this team can get better by getting worse because of the owner and why Garrett is in that position. There is only one other HC in his position for the same reason as Garrett, Lewis. Those are the two men that want.

If I did believe a losing season would bring about what I perceive is a needed change then I would feel different but first someone needs to answer this question.

Who is going to replace Garrett and will that really change much? I view Garrett as the symptom. Replacing him is merely a Band-Aid when major surgery is required.

Anybody can replace Garrett. Take your pick of your favorite name. Placing blame on Jones doesn't absolve Garrett of his own. And the fact that owners don't get fired doesn't mean coaches can't, or shouldn't.

Garrett's faults and failing are his own, and nobody's else failings absolve him of his.

Here’s my take on that failing to succeed idea, that depends on how much future you think you’ve got left.

Several years back, I changed my thinking from a 16 game season to 16 1 game seasons and anything beyond that was a bonus. Each game stands on it’s own and those division games are the standouts.

I get the frustration because I don’t like the ownership or the coaching but still have this historical embilical chord attached and I also agree with nate, I cannot stand to look at Garrett or the Jones clan but I have accepted that is part and parcel of the whole deal. But only during games.

The end result in all of this is a passion that once raged on gamedays is now reduced to just sitting there with little emotion invested and I do not know if that is age or circumstances but I miss me on gamedays.

But I am past blaming Booger or Idiot Boy Child or Garrett because I choose this. I choose to remain a Dallas Cowboys fan in spite of everything.

Why would he do that? Garrett is family, that’s why he’s still there.

I don’t like Booger but do not see him as that type. He’s trying to help his HC and QB. He doesn’t want either to fail.

But if and when they do, he'll make the appropriate decisions then. He's been exceedingly patient with Garrett, but even that has its limits.

I have a pipe dream. It happens throughout sports discussion around the world for probably forever but one day the phrase 'I do not want my favorite player or team to lose but' will disappear from every conversation. It is a contradiction. It would be easier (and less contentious) saying 'I want my favorite player to lose because...' or 'I want my favorite team to lose because...'. They are opinions but combining desire to lose with a regret for wanting to lose instead is like throwing itching powder on a red blistering rash.

I know. Pipe dream.
OK, how about this? I hope we don't win just enough to narrowly miss or squeak into the playoffs if we get bounced in rd 1, giving Jerry false hope that we are once again just one year away from putting it all together. Now, if we squeak into the playoffs and go on a deep run, then like I said in my previous reply to America's cowboy, I will happily eat my Crow upon seeing him signed to an extension.

I truly hope that I have worded this eloquently enough to mend all of the hurt feelings out there.

Now that's a pipe dream.

In my opinion, 6-10 would not terminate Garrett. Finishing 6-10 with a consecutive four-to-five game losing streak and visible loss of roster loyalty for their head coach may make Jones pull the trigger. Anything other than those conditions? Nope. He stays.

So you're saying there's a chance?

Sadly I am right here with you. Which is shocking because for most of my life I have been an eternal optimist

I still watch every game and root for my team faithfully, but this is the first time I can ever remember actually being numb to the losses

This is the first time I can ever remember not having hope for a brighter tomorrow as a Cowboys fan

It’s time to retool everything from coaching on down
I hear you, I have been a supporter of Jason garretts for a very long time, it is only over the past few years that I've really started to sour on him.

I hope we do win as I don't want the players to become accustomed to the JG way of being mediocre at best, we do need a GM with kahunas though

I share in your sacrificing for the greater good principles and agree with all of what you wrote here. Well said.

except Garrett seems to have more lives than Jason Voorhees. He has coached in three playoff games during his reign and still has never been close to being fired. Wade won the division two of three years and was canned halfway through a season. Chan Gailey made the playoffs both years and was canned. Even Campo was fired after three brutal seasons. Seems like no matter what Garrett does, he is never on the hot seat.

What if this team makes the playoffs?
I seriously doubt they make the playoffs and they really don’t deserve to be a playoff team. It is not a big deal to me if they make the playoffs and have no chance to win the Super Bowl. The one and only problem that I have with the team losing is that it won’t help in the draft this year due to the trade. I had much rather see the team lose in epic proportions next season so that drafting a top QB will be possible.

No sense rooting for us to lose now. We already traded away our 1st round pick. Even if we do have a new head coach next year, he won't have much to work with when he gets here (not saying we don't have talent, but the new head coach would basically be stuck with the players we have, unless he went into insta-rebuild like Jon Gruden is doing).

We’ve all aged 8 years during the “process”. We ain’t getting any younger. Especially yours truly

Kinda seems like jg has been hitting the reset button every other year.

Time to “finish the fight” or finish the process ;)

After being on the fence about Garrett over the past several seasons, I'm really just sick of looking at him. I don't care about the clapping. I don't care about the whole "puppet" narrative. I'm just sick of the monotone delivery week in and week out of "the process and RKG's." I think that was a good approach in the beginning but I think the players are sick of hearing about it as well.

At this point, I see us going 1 of 2 ways...we play well enough to maybe go 9-7 and have an outside chance to slip into the playoffs, giving Jerry just enough hope that maybe next year is the year, again...or the bottom falls out, we finish up 6 and 10 with no 1st round pick next year and he finally is out of rope.

I'll never root for our team to fail...but if it means an overhaul of the HC and maybe the offensive coordinator, I'm not going to mourn the loss of another season. I've seen enough of Garret to know what he is by now...average. In the realm of coaching he is JAG.

Like I said, I'm just sick of looking at him. Go bring the process to someone else and let them deal with it. We need a shot of adrenaline from hungry new coach.

that's rather ignorant and cowardly

As I mentioned earlier, we'd still have earlier picks in each round. Picking at 34 or 35 is better than 55 or 56.
Not that I'm a proponent of intentionally losing, but if we do lose, being at the beginning of each round is much better than being toward the end of each round.
