With everything going on in Washington many might think I'm crazy but I would go with this in a heartbeat:

Mike Shanahan - HC (The Rat can coach and Romo is his prototype QB. Romo's here for good and Dez would get his name dialed constantly)
Gary Kubiak - OC (Shanny's old right hand and boy would this guy incorporate a running game)
Rod Marinelli - DC (Any HC running a 4-3 can entrust this guy to run the defense, Shanny's got enough skins)
Rich Bisaccia - ST (As long as Shanny's cool to keep him I would. He's turned this ST's around)

Another thing about Shanny is when he leaves Washington he's gonna treat them like he treated the Raiders. Outright ruthless. He didn't want to mortgage the whole teams future for RG3 and even though this thing seems like a mess down there the guys got the nuts to shut the prince down regardless of what the owner thinks. That's another huge element we need. Shanny holds players accountable and rarely gets out coached.

Shanahan wants out of DC to get away from a meddling owner who won't let him call the shots. Why would he ever come here?

I don't want it to be but it's going to be Zimmer

That is about as likely as Rob Ryan becoming the head coach--they left under similar circumstances with both having been undermined and called out by boss hog.

Well the thread is about who should be.

But in all reality Shanny wants to leave the skins because he doesn't see a future with no draft picks and a horrible cap situation. There's no shot of him getting any added talent since they mortgaged for RG3 and the league has neutralized the kid.

Danny Snyder did not get in the way of Shanny benching the kid so how much of him meddling or not is up in the air.

If he can work for Snyder he can work for Jerry. There are only so many prominent coaching opportunities in the league. We have a QB, we have an offense. We have draft picks and our cap is no where as bad as people think.

Kubiak is also out there so he'll get his OC and if Marinelli respects Shanny he's got a hell of a DC already here.

Shanny doesn't want control of drafting personnel but he does want input and here he will get it with our structure. I think Shanny and Jerry would actually be the only shot other than Holmgren of working together.

Holmgren is terrible with personnel though and that's the last guy I want here with Jerry getting another ball licker.

I am absolutely behind Kubiak as OC. You won't get any bit of negative reaction from me on that. He would make this offense beast.

If we go the college route, David Shaw is my guy
If we go after a veteran, then Lovie Smith is my guy
If we go after an assistant, then a guy like Ray Horton would be my guy.

He definitely would. He's gonna go where Shanny goes though. They're a package and even Shanny's son knows it.

If not Shanny from NFL HC rankings I go Shaw from college HC rankings.

you say that now but reality is in 2 years you will be on this same very site talking about how Dallas needs another HC.

Yep, probably, because the MAIN problem will STILL be in Dallas.

So, your point is? Or, are you one of "them"?

Could get on board with all of those choices. Sadly Shaw would be a pipe dream.Looks like he is locked into staying at Stanford.

Kubiak as O coordinator and Lovie as HC? Then we could keep Rod

Lovie as HC would mean we could keep Rod. Would be a bit odd promoting an assistant to DC of one of the worst defenses ever. But in this case it would actually be sellable.

Honestly I don't think there is anyone that can come in and turn this around. At least not with Jerry still alive. I'm usually very optimistic but I don't know how anyone can be after yesterdays game. It's sad to say but I don't think we will have another true contender till Jerry is long and gone. Sad part is that his son might be just as bad his Jerry.

What's so great about Lovie? He doesn't blitz and his offensive acumen is 0! We've already seen his system and it's not working. All he'll do is set the offense back 10 points per game.

Unless they are named Belichick most coaches are giving up something on one side of the ball. That is why they hire a good offensive or defensive coordinator. While Lovie's offenses were not good, he didn't have anywhere near the talent in Chicago we have here. Beyond that he made it to the super bowl with REX GROSSMAN as his QB.

I'd say the opposite. Cutler, Marshall, Jeffery and Forte are pretty tough. Look at how good they've been without Lovie.

I don't think he adds much to the defense since we already have his system here and he definitely takes away from the offense.

I would prefer Ray Horton.

We need to improve the defense and we need to get out of the mentality of having 'cover corners' that can't tackle and not putting $$$ and draft picks into quality safeties. We need somebody that has a bit different way of thinking. Somebody on defense would probably work so he wouldn't be so friendly with Romo and tell him to run the ball so his defense can get a breather instead of having those 3 and outs that run 15 seconds off the clock.

A coach that can take some responsibility and doesn't throw his QB under the bus because he knows he's on the hot seat and should have been the one to tell Romo to run the stupid ball. I would also like somebody that is ruthless when it comes to veterans nearing 30 years old and can convince the team to not re-sign these guys.

It is the system not Lovie. Not to mention Alshon has taken a massive leap in year 2.

As long as Lovie is paired with a good offensive coordinator i'm not sure why you'd think he would take away from the offense.

Lets not forget Lovie went 10-6 last year when he was fired. And the previous year the team was 7-3 before it fell apart when Cutler got hurt. Beyond that the difference in PPG has been pretty minimal between the Cowboys and Bears in 2011 and 2012. So what is he going to take away?

2012

Cowboys PPG: 23.5 (#15)
Bears PPG: 23.4 (#16)

2011

Cowboys PPG: 23.1 (#15)
Bears PPG: 22.1 (#17)

I'll take anyone willing to tell Jerry to relinquish the title and duties of GM. I could care less if it's Belichek out of New england, Dan McCarney out of North Texas, or Nick Saban from 'Bama. Until Jerruh is willing to do that, the mediocrity cycle continues to turn...

We could be a championship team and contender every year if jerry really wanted us to be. But he doesn't truly want us to be.

If I owned the Cowboys I would give Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis blank checks and give New Orleans a few draft picks or whatever it takes. Then I'd sit back and let them take care of my team while I glad handed and did my duties as the owner.

But instead we are stuck with Jerry as our coach until he dies which can't get here soon enough. Even then we are just hoping his son isn't like him which seems unlikely due to his own radio show etc.

So I'm actually hoping the Jones' get caught in a scandal that forces them to sell the team

Some will laugh, but I'd like to see Bisaccia get a HC gig. I've seen him coach in person. Players love him and will run through a wall for him...and they're held accountable.

I'm sorry DC nation. I'm tired of the coaching carousel. I understand it gives people a sense of new hope but this team will be in the same direction as long as the same men who run the franchise up top run it.
