Yeah Martin will not come cheap I still like the fact we can have the pro bowl players locked up and not be in cap hell in the process. I'm not a big fan of high priced FA teams tend to over spend and not get the bang for the buck.

I think Martin will set the new bar for OG contracts. The ones given out in Oakland and Cleveland have jacked up that price tag, big time! And Martin is the best of the bunch and he knows it. It's going to cost plenty.

Well I guess we will use it to re-sign Martin and kick some rocks on a vet signing or possibly a trade.

And with that......there's nobody worth crap left to sign.

They'll just use it to sign Zack Martin.

Yech! Not interested in overpaying for a guy like that anyway. It's obvious he's out for all of the money he can get and wit him his up and down history, looks like a prime candidate to "cash it in" as soon as he cashes in.

I'd keep plugging away in the draft rather than spending in free agency, especially given their recent record for success.

Pay the good players that you have rather than chasing someone another team didn't want enough to keep.

How is it obvious? Chargers have issues with players and contracts all the time.

As for up and down he has had 19 sacks the past two seasons. He started slow sure but he has come on in a big way recently. You're just guessing he does not have a passion for the game.

And the Chargers obviously wanted to keep him. They executed their 5th year option and then franchised him; he just refuses to sign with them long term. If he plays well this year then that will be three consecutive years of high level play.

I'm not big on FA either but he is one of the better pass rushers in the NFL and not just some cast off as you assert.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Just hurry up and lock Zack Martin up

I don't think there is much left to negotiate. They probably have had most of it already drawn up and just waiting to execute.

And also time correctly so Jerry Jones gets the exposure/publicity he wants out of it.

I agree with everyone saying it will just be Zack Martin who gets signed.

There's simply not much out in Free Agency left. The only one that I think is half decent is Orlando Franklin, who won't cost a whole lot (and that is if he hasn't signed somewhere in the last couple of days). I do know he had a visit with Jacksonville.

The Chargers cut him recently but that was more because of a big salary and who they drafted than anything else. He's a decent guard and would provide good depth.

I don't expect Dallas to sign him but he at least fits the profile: Won't cost a lot, is still young, etc.

Right kind of guy? Folks can decide that for themselves:

I never referred to him as a "cast off", please don't put words in my mouth.

I hope Do Not Want sums up my position on Ingram clearly and succinctly.

I think Mara is already in Goodell's ear that this is unfair and he needs to do something about it like they did back in 2010 when the Cowboys and Redskkns were smarter than the other NFL teams and front loaded some of their contracts in the that uncapped year. It still bothers me that you can be penalized for having better business sense than your competitors.

Please quote the portion of the article you think makes him the money grubber. He said the Chargers had to tag him. That just means he refused to sign with them. I would make Spanos tag me too. He is a terrible owner I would not willingly play for.

You said players that other teams did not want. That is a cast off. The Chargers clearly do want him.

cast·off
ˈkastäf/
adjective
  1. 1.
no longer wanted; abandoned or discarded.
    "a pile of castoff clothes"
noun

And I know you don't want him. I am not trying to persuade you as we both know it's a waste of time. I am just arguing points of fact.

I hope they go out and sign a veteran defensive back and even a veteran DE/DT at least for 1 year...we can not rely on Carrol or Irving.

If he has as good a year as we all hope for? Yeah, I'd say that we do.

If he has a good year and after Zack gets signed, I'm not sure we could afford him with cap space or not. I'm just not sure that you sink all your eggs in one basket.

Watch the attached video from Ingram himself, and then decide if you still want this team to invest huge money in him.

I don't. And this only reinforces my position.

Two things:

One, even a Pro Bowl year doesn't out his asking price in the other guys' range as it is in fact one year.

Second, they still gave leverage in that they can keep him under contract for 2018 if they choose, which of course they would.

Add those up and his cost would be much less than the huge money the other best at their position guys are being paid.

The lyrics go:

The Chargers had to put the tag on me
I'm not trying to brag homie.
It's not really about the cash homie

So yeah I am still not seeing it.

Now this seems like a guy passionate and engaged to me. Not a quitter like you claim.
