Paxton Lynch/Connor Cook thread

Lynch - don't draft @ 4
Cook - just no

Getting full value for the 4th overall pick isn't accomplished by drafting either of these QBs. I wouldn't trade down for them either. If they are the best QBs available then I pick Bosa or Zeke or Ramsey.

the more i've studied this draft, the more i'm beginning to think our best move would be to trade down and maximize the pick....honestly I like Goff and Elliott the most....i doubt Goff makes it to #4, and Elliott is a little bit of a reach at #4 but i could live with...the rest of the prospects are just meh...that's why i started a thread about which player if they fell to us could net us a nice trade down...so far its been Tunsil as the most worthy.

We have alot of holes to fill here starting with DE, QB, CB, and yes even TE. as the most pressing needs

I like Lynch I think he has a great upside. Cook I would be concerned about. I think he has the tools but I question his leadership ability. When you are not even a team captain as a QB at Mich St. that bothers me. The position has inherited leadership role that he does not seem to possess.

I like Lynch as well, I was listening to Sirius NFL and they are expecting Buffalo or the Jets to draft him. But they say the kid needs at least a year to learn NFL schemes, said several scouts/coaches said he did not understand NFL level plays, said he is very raw and will need lots of time to develop.

If Dallas were to trade down and draft Lynch plus get another high pick, I wouldn't object in the slightest. In fact, I'd consider it just cause for celebration.

I've studied pretty much every player that is expected to be taken in the first 2 rounds, and I can't decide crap.:(

I was actually impressed with his play in these two games unlike highlight videos that are tailor made to pick out only his best

If Dallas has Cook rated as being worthy of being taken early in the second, I have no problem with it.

I assume in that that the Cowboys have thoroughly vetted him and do not believe his alleged lack of leadership or inconsistency issues are problems, or at least not ones that can't be fixed.

I'm not interested in playing like I know which of these QBs is going to be great and which ones are going to fail.

I'd have a big problem if the Cowboys scouted him and thought he was worthy of the 34th pick. Forget the off the field stuff. Look on the field.

He's not a great QB.

We've talked a lot about the top two QBs, Goff and Wentz. There's a good chance those guys will be gone at 4. The next two likely QBs taken are Lynch and Cook. Could one of them be the QB of the future? I highly doubt Lynch will stay until round 2, so we would either trade down and take him or just grab him at 4 (much like we did with Travis Frederick). Have any of you guys seen these players in action? I've only seen highlights of Lynch, but I have seen Connor Cook. He was excellent. His mechanics were good and he read defenses well. Maybe in the first round we take the best player available and then grab Cook if he's still there in the 2nd. Or maybe we get Lynch in the first after a trade back (or staying put). Since Romo is the guy for the next couple years, one of these guys has the opportunity to apprentice and eventually be the starter much like Romo learned behind Testaverde and Bledsoe. Think it could work?

I'm not convinced about Wentz anyway. I saw him in the Senior Bowl and was underwhelmed. Of course, I'll admit I'm not a talent scout/expert. It does seem the experts get it wrong a lot anyway. Both the top two QBs in recent history have not worked out. Payton Manning had a stellar career while Ryan Leaf was a total bust. Andrew Luck has been excellent while RG3 looks like a bust (after a good first year). For all we know either Goff or Wentz will bust (or maybe even both) while the 3rd and 4th guys are the real gems.

The odds are better the higher you pick and remember the SR bowl is not about the game but what they do all week. Some of the busts like Leaf was not about talent. Evaluating talent is hard but not near as hard as evaluate heart, desire and the work ethic it takes to be a great player at any position but more so at QB
That said, I think both of the top 2 will be gone and lynch can only be had in the first rnd which might be tough since they won't take him at 4

It bugs me that Connor Cook was not voted to be a team captain at Michigan State. Supposedly, he wasn't well-liked.

That is an issue but a bigger issue is he is not very accurate and that really worries me
I do like lynch though

I have watched the top 3 qbs and for me, it goes like this:

1-Goff- very good accuracy, great movement in the pocket and has youth on his side. Will be good early and have upside.

2- Lynch- this guy impresses the heck out of me. Huge arm that can be inconsistent but I feel like with proper mechanics will become more so. Elite size/agility/quickness combo for a QB. Has a good feel in the pocket. This guy will be the best QB in this class and possibly top 5 in the league in a couple of years.

3 Wentz- great size and good athleticism. Good arm...not sure on his ability to really be excellent at the QB level. Never showed an ability to dominate even on his lower level. Highly skeptical that this guy can elevate his game to be elite. I believe he can be a good to very good QB that in the right system could win a lot. Just not seeing elite. His propensity to lock on 1 wr speaks to the level of competition and worries me that he will struggle to go through progressions.

Not passing for over 60% in college is even more disturbing.

The Connor Cook saga is a strange one... What did this kid actually do to deserve it?... Where is the story of him creating this opinion of himself?
Where is the video of him punching a baby?... kicking an animal?... heckling a fat girl?... not using a crosswalk?... anything!... in this day and age
of social media and TMZ headlines, you'd think someone would have a story of this QB from a major college causing a stir.... but we got nothing.

Forget the actual game film and the completion rate and anything "football"... This is a smear job... but why?

I heard
I'd be okay with that. We do like him.

That seems to be the rumor. :)

If Lynch is on the radar, trade back to #15 and get more picks.

If Goff and Wentz to go 1 – 2, Lynch will not be around at 15. He goes to San Francisco Dallas take him first..

If anyone really beleives that Tony Romo has a reasonable probability of being productive over the next two seasons then they need to wake up.

Romo has never been that big phyaical gyy able to take the punishment and now he is on the wrong side of mid thirties recovering from consecutive injuries to the same body part.

I love Tony but Ive seen this before with some pretty good QB's. Once you start collecting injuries late in your career the writing is on thw wall.

The Cowboys need their next franchise quarterback now and its not Lynch. Je doeant have that quarterback/fighter pilot attitudes.

NFL quarterbacks are a different breed, supremely confident, cocky almost. They were born to be quarterbacks and would never settle for playing another position.

Paxton Lynch's favorite position was RB and he only switched to QB because he was too tall to be a RB. He just doesnt seem to have the attitude that he will carry the team on his shoulders if he has too. It almost seems like he's good if everyone else is good. I may be wrong but thats what I sense.

Connor Cook doesnt have the physical gifts but hw seems more like the kind of guy that wanta to win at any cost.

The market is causing QB's to rise in value but hopefully Cook will still be there when thw 2nd rouns rolls around.

Sorry OJ… You shot your credibility on Stephen McGee.

I don't think it's any secret that my favorite is Paxton Lynch. My line of thinking is not about next season, or even 2017. I'm thinking down the road. In my opinion – as well as that of many scouts – which has the highest upside of any quarterback in this draft. He's nowhere near NFL ready at this time, whereas Jared Goff could probably start next season. Nonetheless, in Dallas's case, we're not talking about next season. Lynch's physical tools and natural abilities will translate into a better quarterback in a few years, when he is needed to be the starter.

If Dallas can find a way to get him – even if it means taking him at 4 - I would' this have a problem with it..

Some team is going to fall in love with Lynch

Hes going early first round
