QB contracts have forced teams to make decisions they haven't had to make in the past. It is true, if Dak leaves he might get $60 million somewhere else. Look at what Cleveland handed Watson. But every team is different and has different CAP situations. The Cowboys have CeeDee and Micah, two top players at other positions who will get paid near the top for their positions. How do you pay Dak $60 million, CeeDee close to $30 million and Micah probably somewhere in the same ball park? That is a lot of money to dedicate to 3 players.

The bigger problem is how these contracts are structured. They make the first year or two CAP friendly and the last years not friendly at all. Look at Dak this year, and he has $40 million in voidable years too. If Dak signs for $60 million chances are the last year or two of his deal will mean a CAP hit close to $90 million.

Also, Dak is making $40 million per year on his current contract. $60 million is a 50% increase over that. Has he played that well that he deserves a 50% salary increase? Give him $45 million and add incentives if he win playoff games and a Super Bowl.

So Jerrah and Junya want Dak and everyone else is a big no? Guys, we are now the Raiders east, circa Late AL DAVIS. Can't win big games when their is no cohesion in planning and team building. THAT is a culture issue.
Yup. And if we let Dak walk, it'll be just like Carr, w/ no compensation.

Dak will never win a big playoff game so isn’t his value 0 if you want to win a Super Bowl. Would any team pay him $50+ million? I can’t see it happening. I hope Jerry and the dumb son are not bidding against themselves.

So let him play out 2024. You're already putting him in the top 2 QB bracket, if he performs in 2024 Jerry will have to pay up and i'm sure with that success, adoration and commerciality then Dak will want to stay on Dallas....if Dak doesn't perform we may be wishing him well and s******ing at the team paying the $60m.
But if that’s the plan then trade him now to get value, or let him walk for nothing. You could get something like 7 overall from Las Vegas

Stop saying dumb stuff. If Dak was a 60mm player, a team would be calling for his services. They aren’t. Just use the smallest bit of common sense before pressing post reply.
Why didn’t Minnesota trade for Cousins before making him the highest paid player in NFL history?

Why trade for him when you can wait a year and not have to give up any draft capital?

He was tagged and unlike Dak the Ravens put the non exclusive tag meaning his agent could talk to other teams. Atlanta fans are still upset that they didn’t try to sign him. This really tells you what Dak is thought of around the league that the Cowboys had to put the exclusive tag on him.
Lamar had NO AGENT. He represented himself, unlike Dak. They probably thought, since he didn’t have an experienced agent, he would screw himself up. He didn’t. He won.

Exactly…if Dak isn’t worth $60 million per year, he certainly isn’t worth that plus the loss of significant draft capital

The Cowboys are bidding against themselves with Dak…just like they did last time

I think what some fans overlook is all it takes is one team willing to pay him $60M. Whether we think he's worth it doesn't matter. There are always 1, 2 or 3 coaches under pressure to win to save their job(s). They have no interest in hooking their career to a rookie QB. Not to mention.......most coaches will get a chance to win with only one QB, maybe two. Now we can bash Dak all day for not winning playoff games but he has proven he can get you there. This is why he's top ten and will def have teams interested in the open market.

I’m not sure what you mean here. Kirk was franchise tagged twice by the Commanders. Commanders weren’t going to franchise tag him a third time. He didn’t want to be there either.

That seems to be what Fish is hinting at, that Jerry and Stephen don't quite see eye to eye about Dak.

Maybe Jerry is wanting to pay Dak, but Stephen is looking at the numbers and Cap Boy says, "I don't think so".

Will Jerry slap his boy across the face and tell him "I'm still the alpha around here junior, know your role" or will the old man cave and let his idiot boy make the call???

This is like a real time soap opera:popcorn:
Whichever doesn't want to pay isn't the idiot. At least not on this one topic.

It's funny that Fischer IS one of those people sitting on his couch. His "scoops" are ice cream.
The new wave of amateur YouTube journalists get better guests, scoops and game film than Fish and are more relatable. LawNation, BossCowboys, SkywalkerSteele,Voch, etc.

Fish seems no different than the Jones Admin.... just living off of 90's glory day memories.

Right, but Minnesota could have traded for him while he was on the franchise tag but they waited so they wouldn’t have to give up 1’s. Other poster was asking why no one is trading for Dak now if he’ll have a market next year

Like Kirk, Dak also can’t be franchised again

I am 100% confident saying Jerry and Stephen Jones agree ..........
Sure they would love to sign him to a contract with a base $50M and another $10-15m for post-season performance

I see your point, but just a correction.. Kirk actually could have been franchised again, but the Commanders decided not to. Also, I vaguely recall Cousins wanted to test free agency market anyways and didn’t want to play for the Commanders anymore.

You are absolutely correct, all it takes is one. However, I think a lot of the league has seen these situations go badly for the acquiring teams and are approaching these situations more cautiously.

I don't think the league as a whole views Dak favorably. I think most FO's view him as a limited football player. I have never once heard a league exec name Dak as an example of what they are looking for.

Sure, you might find some comments where Dak's name was thrown out by reporter & the exec is complimentary. I'm talking about an unprompted remark by a league exec (outside of Dallas!).

Dak is a 60m$ player because that’s what he’d get if he left. So you either pay him that or he leaves with no franchise tag due to his contract forbidding it.

When Kirk Cousins left Washington around Dak’s age, he became the highest paid player in NFL history. There’s no reason that wouldn’t happen to Dak
Who care's what anyone else pays him?
They are free to harm their own teams and waste as much money as they want.
Our owners already inflicted their waste and harm.

Something else we are overlooking........NO ONE has heard Dak or his agent say he wants $60M. For all we know he may be looking for $53-55M which would still make him top top 3 and may say prove it.

Either way, I have a feeling if the extension isn't done before the draft.........this will be his last season here.
