Possible backup QB, Bills E.J. Manuel, would you?

I'd take Dustin Vaughan over Weeden at this point. As has been echoed in many of the responses above, if Romo goes down, the season is toast, so the Cowboys may as well try to really develop a true backup. Weeden is not going to be in the league for very much longer, so why waste time on him?

99% of the teams in the league are toast if their starting qb goes down. Weeden is just a stopgap if Romo has to sit for a few games.

Agreed. But my point remains...if Romo is done for the season, I'd rather see the Cowboys groom someone rather than try to remain competitive with Weeden. Just my take..

I remember some raised eyebrows when Dallas' 2013 draft board was leaked and E.J. Manuel was graded as a fourth round prospect (76th overall).

The former Florida State Seminole was the 16th overall selection that year by the Buffalo Bills.

I don't see Manuel having much upside right now if he gets waived.

He's not going to come in and learn the playbook in two weeks.

Manuel doesn't have enough time to challenge for the #2 job, so why bother?

If I had any interest, it would be on a futures contract once the regular season ends.

And by that time, I'd be much more interested in looking for a rookie passer in the 2016 draft.

if Romo goes down for more than a game or two the season is pretty much toast anyway. Sad thing is that none of our backups right now are capable of even playing game manager. What we need is some old fart like Kitna who can do that. Sad to say there are none of them around anymore.

Yea, I'd take him, at least to develop as a #3, but I don't think he'd make it to us on waivers.

I agree, there is no way he is better than Weeden is this offense, this season. But I'd be willing to keep him as a #3 QB.

Pretty sure Weeden won't get the majority of the snaps if Romo is done. Vaughn/Showers will get time on the field. Or we make a trade to get a better prospect than those 2.

Our local sports radio was talking to a Buffalo sportswriter about their QB situation...they have Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel all competing for the starting spot. He suggested that Manuel is the third guy and if so could be cut (I know, he is starting their 3rd game, but the reporter basically said it was Ryan giving him the chance to cut his throat).

If Manuel were cut, would you consider him an upgrade to Weeden at QB?

Bring back Alex Tanney!

Man, he looks good in the two preseason games I've watched him in. It has nothing to do with backups either, the guy just has decent pocket awareness and his accuracy is a thing of beauty.

Tanney time!

Honestly though, I wish we would've never gotten rid of him. If we would've kept him on our squad I reckon he'd be a better backup than both Vaughn and Weeden are right now. Plus I think he has more raw talent than both.

Just my opinion.

We didn't really get rid of Tanney. He was on the practice squad and got poached away. Incidents like that are why I favor a fundamental change in how practice squads work. I would make the practice squad simply a set of league-minimum players who are actually part of the team and can suit up for any game. You probably wouldn't even call it the practice squad anymore. There would just be more roster spots. But the league doesn't consult me on how it handles this stuff. How dare they not?

I like Austin Davis and Tanney over Weeden and Vaughan. I'd like to see the team admit their mistake rather than having to go through another Brad Johnson deal again.

Ahh you just jarred my memory. I believe it was the Browns that signed him to their active roster a few games into the season, no? I guess we just didn't have the roster space to call him up ourselves and hold onto him.

Agree with the rest as well. I don't like how teams can just "steal" from each other's practice squads.
