Let's say we trade for him. Doesn't all his guarantee money stay with Philly leaving only salary?

No.

All of DeMarco Murray's remaining signing bonus proration ($4M) would escalate and remain on Philadelphia's 2016 salary cap, but the running back's guaranteed base salaries in '16 and 2017 would be assumed by the team trading for him.

Murray has an $8M cap number this year and the Eagles would actually save $4M (plus the cost of a new contract replacing Murray) by trading the disappointing rusher.

The new team would then have Murray's contract, including a fully guaranteed $7M base salary in 2016 and $2M of his $7.5M base salary in 2017.

However, if Murray is on the roster the third day of the '17 NFL league year (in March), another $3M of his base salary that season becomes guaranteed and he will earn a $500K roster bonus.

2018 and '19 also have $500K roster bonuses and each year of the contract contains performance escalators tied to rushing yards.

I don't like that contract.

Murray is good at everything while being great at nothing. I like him better than Darren McFadden, but would prefer to add someone else in free agency and/or the draft.

Sigh....

Come on Catch! Your love affair with Dmac is as sad as the JG lovers. Yes he was 4th in rushing etc, but he's nothing more than a stopgap. Murray's style is totally different. He's a punisher. It rubs off on everyone. We had an identity finally from this crappy offense and we blew it! I don't understand why people don't get that.

I agree that he is nothing more than a stop gap.

I want to upgrade the position but it's on down the list.

Also, I think we still have that identity but we need the passing game to be better and we need the coaches to try to keep the defense honest instead of being predictable on downs and distances and running from the same formations all the time.

It was undoubtedly a bad fit with Chip Kelly's offense and how he used Murray, but I expect Pederson to have at least one season for himself to find out whether he can use him or not. I just can't see the front office telling him we're releasing Murray and also taking $13 million off your cap room this year, welcome to Philly coach!

I don't think two years = one year, in terms of the implications this year cap wise, and the accompanying backlash. Not to mention do you want to set a precedent of having malcontents walk away while keeping their money? I didn't like it when we let Ratliff and Orton get away with it.

This assumes Pederson would be against the move. What if he wasn't? Furthermore, it also assumes that Pederson would take the position with the understanding that he wouldn't have last say, and then get pissed just 6 months later when he didn't have last say. Lastly, they wouldn't be taking $13M off his cap room because it would cost $8M to keep him. If they designated him June 1st then they lose nothing in terms of cap space this year. At most, we're talking $5M off their cap room.

And when we're talking the cap, 1 year can equal 2. You can borrow from future years so - in a way - 1 year can equal 5. So long as you're both needy and willing, cap space can be made. The implications for this year would be that they have $13M in dead money. If they were so hard up for money they could just borrow from future years knowing that they won't need to account for any dead money from Murray because they'll have already taken the hits.

Cut Now:
2016: $13M ($8M using June 1st)
2017: $0M ($5M using June 1st)
Cut Next Year
2016: $8M (He's on the roster)
2017: $5M (He's not on the roster)

Yes. The ticket-paying, merchandise-buying public. A fanbase that's decidedly down after the whole Chip Kelly fiasco. I'm not sure that cutting your big free agent after just one year and taking a salary cap hammering would do much to lift their spirits.

Much like late last year when Murray started chirping, possibly in an attempt to get out and keep his money, I don't expect much to come of it this year.

You're putting too much stock into fans actually caring. Somehow they'd care less about the teams mistake if they had to watch that mistake on the field every week? If Dallas can waste time on Greg Hardy and all the baggage he came with and not suffer one bit in terms of the merchandise-buying public, I'm pretty sure the Eagles can cut Murray without much concern for the backlash.

We'll have to see what happens then. I think he's in Philadelphia for one more season.

I don't understand how you can say he was "4th in rushing" and then put a "but" after it. The guy was solid. If anything I question his durability but not his skill. McFadden is a good running back in this league. And to be honest i'd much rather have him at 1 million than Murray at 7 or 8.

On the Radio this AM.

Murry was saying he does not know where the rumors of him leaving are coming from.
He is signed to the Eagles for 4 more years and 40 million dollars.

Murray stated yesterday that he wants to stay in Philly and Coughlin talks as though he values Murray's presence there. DeMarco has been spoiled by the big money that the Eagles threw at him and more than likely would like to justify their financial commitment. He will get the opportunity to do that this year. I think we'll address the RB position at some point in this year's draft.

Coughlin was not hired and they already hired someone else...

My bad -- didn't know that. That'll teach me to keep up. I still think DeMarco will be retained in Philly, though. They're much too committed financially not to.

Jaws (Ron Jaworski) ex-Eagles player broke down film on Murray last year and said yes the blocking wasn't as good as it was in Dallas but Murray missed alot of opportunities (aka left alot of meat on bone).
