So because we sign McClain (Mr. trustworthy and reliable), we don't need to draft DL? We were terrible last year with creating a pass rush. Aside from the Hardy signing, we have managed to prevent ourselves from worsening. That's about it.

Let's not forget that Lee is a huge question mark, and we have yet to solidify the running game. It was Murray and the dominance of our OL that prevented our defense from being atrocious.

Let's not get carried away with the idea we don't need to draft a DT. I still say it should be at the top of the draft.

I'm with you on this. And also for the umteenth time, Dallas has clearly stated their policy is BPA in the draft and need via free agency. If a guy is on the board and he is rated BPA and it turns out to be DT, I don't see why they would bypass it.

You keep saying this, and literally will not point to a single other post. Get out of here with this incoherent, conclusory nonsense.

Are saying that plenty of people on this board aren't saying that Dallas should go Gurley or that there are no articles out there that Gurley is one to look for, as a possble Dallas pick? I think the posters point is pretty valid. There is no reason to nit-pick at it.

I mean he could hook up with a camp grounds and be a designated fire started......I Kid. :)

HA!!

"OK kids. First thing ya need to build a fire, is a house." ;)

I really hope he comes back BUT that he WANTS to play football.

He was kinda iffy at the end of the season but I can grant him the time off and body damage due to that.

We'll see.

I wonder if they can structure his contract where he gets paid per game and that amount escalates for each game he plays and an additional bump for the number of games played in a row. The idea is to make the first four games be his lowest pay which I would assume would be the four game checks he would have to give up for substance abuse.

How does the NFL determine the amount of the fine if his salary is structured this way?

I'll assume they'll average it out or make it a fixed amount so teams can't strategize around the fine with a clever contract.

I believe that the fine is just part of the base salary. If they gave him an 800K base salary and a signing bonus, the fine would just be 200K regardless of the size of the signing bonus.

For the first half of the year, McClain was basically the reason our defense was competitive. Good decision to bring him back.

I think we really undervalue the players we don't have. It isn't that they aren't replaceable, but their contributions shouldn't just be taken for granted.

McClain was a tone-setter and our leading tackler last year as a 12-game starter. His presence was part of the reason for our defense playing as well as it did.

Carter was up and down, but started eight games and had five important interceptions.

Durant was a force in the six games he started.

Parnell stepped in and helped us not lose much when Free got hurt.

Harris at least gave us decent returns on kickoffs and punts, was a coverage force and was probably our best blocker as a receiver.

Selvie gave us a rotation player who could step in and not be a liability.

Moore stepped up at times as the third corner for some big pass breakups and tackles.

Melton gave us a sack and pressure presence when Crawford was limited.

Now, the fact that we were able to succeed when any one of these players wasn't in the game shows that we will possibly be fine without them. But the cumulative loss might take a toll.

The addition of some FAs and getting Lee back will mitigate that some at LB, but certainly re-signing one of the players who was part of a playoff season would be big.

Always expected him back. Not many teams are going to take the risk with him, especially not for big money. He'll come back on another 1-2 year deal.

IN THE FIRST. WE SHOULD TAKE GURLEY IN THE FIRST!

That's what posters are saying. We can still draft DL in the rounds after the first if we go with an RB. What aren't you two following here? Going with an offensive pick in the first doesn't mean we aren't focused on defense.

There will be good defensive prospects in the second and third rounds of this draft.

It's pretty simple as others have pointed out.

Nobody else wants McClain because of the list of issues and risk that he has had in his past. We have the upper hand in the negotiations and everybody knows it.

The man is immensely talented and takes this defense to another level and we have all seen that but at the same time he disappears. Offer him an incentive laden contract that will keep his head in the game with the prospects of a good bit of money and at the same time protects the team from one of his disappearing acts.

I'd rather have McClain for the 7 or 8 games that he is on than not having him at all. With him, a hopefully healthy Lee, the addition of Hardy and of course considering Crawford and Lawrence and Hitchens, we have a young, talented laden front seven on defense with a ton of potential.

It's been awhile since anybody here has been able to say something like that about this group.

YOU not nice? Never. :)

WoodysGirl is always nice --yet there are others just waiting for the opportunity to bite...

But what I like is the extreme physical nature that Ro and Hardy bring. They seem to not only tackle but do it in a very physical manner. Takes a little desire out of the runners after a couple of extreme body slams.

With the NFL draft around the corner, a lot of teams aren't going to be chomping at the bits of signing a LB whose looking for big $$ to go along with concussions issues at the end of LAST season.

So yes I could see not many teams looking at signing Rolo as of now but once the draft rolls around and the dirt settles, and teams realize they need depth at the LB position he will get picked up somewhere whether its Dallas or not.
