Report: Texans won’t trade for Tony Romo

I think this tread title is deceiving. I believe the Texans don't want to trade for Romo and that is their firm position right now, but that doesn't meant it won't happen. If the Cowboys stick to their guns and hold Romo, the longer this goes on, the closer Houston will get to caving in on that decision. Even if it takes waiting until the Texans lose a few games, the Cowboys will eventually get the trade they want from the Texans for Romo.

this will not go into the season for many reasons.
romo would be worth much less to texas and denver if he does not take part in the preseason.
i dont think jerry would go that far.

If I were GM, I would be calling Jacksonville.
1) Jax has a vested interest in Houston not getting Romo. Same Division, Jax would rather Houston roll with Savage.
2) Romo is better than Bortles. Take away Bortles garbage time pad the stats and you have one of the worst QBs in the league.
3) I think Jax has the cap room to accommodate a $14M QB.
4) Jax defense will be better than Houston's this year in my opinion. Houston lost Bouye. Clowney is overrated and JJ Watt might be done. In that poor division, even a mediocre defense would look great.
5) Coughlin is in Jax as consultant and knows Romo well.
6) Jax is one healthy Romo away from competing in the AFC Championship from the looks of things early in FA.
7) Jax can kill two birds with one stone, keep Romo from Houston and replace Bortles with Romo.
8) The Jags have the 4th pick in the draft. Could be Fournette in the backfield.
9) If I were Romo, I'd rather be in Jax than Houston right now. Houston is a potential train wreck. The arrow is pointing up for Jax.

Don't sleep on the Jets just yet. The entire Jets base is totally demoralized with the whole team. I know Jets fans who are not even going to watch this year, let alone go to a game. That is how bad it is. Romo as a Jet would sell tickets. Yeah, Romo would not want to go there but, that is the way the cookie breaks. No release. You go where I trade you, play 2nd string to Dak, or retire.

A lot of the Dallas fans have trashed Tony all of these years....several of the very worst are right here in the CBZ.
That's far less excusable, imo.
That's just what comes with arguably the worst fanbase in the NFL.

Let's hope the Texans understand this and cave sooner than later.

i believe the texans are well aware of the situation they put themselves in.
i think this report is nothing but face saving.
they want to tell their fans that all is going according to plan (dont panic!)

it is wonderful that they traded their qb when they did not have to.
cleveland, with their 100m cap space could have done it 1 day later, 1 week later, 1 month later.

When Jerry goes to release Romo I hope Stephen catches him before he reaches the phone and Goldberg spears him.

:lmao:
Come on now, ninja. You're just trying to play with our heads, right?
Given their total purge mode, they've got to be the least likely by far.

from the texans board:
According to @MikeGarafolo, it will take “a first round pick for this year AND a first round pick for next year” to get Garoppolo from Pats

Maybe Houston's backup plan is that Cleveland will cut Osweiler and then Osweiler will sign with Houston for vet min. You do have to admit that that would be hilarious. Cleveland would be on the hook for paying $15M of Osweiler's guaranteed salary. And Houston had to do was swap their 2nd round pick and a 6th(?) for Cleveland's 4th, basically moving roughly 50 slots in the draft from their second to Cleveland's fourth.

In this scenario, Cleveland would look like a bunch of morons.

You must have a really low opinion of Romo then if you think he's going to be a problem if we hold him for a month or so.

No low opinion of him at all. Just from experience in these matters I know how even the nicest and best locker room guys can sour in these situations.

hilarious but difficult for houston fans to accept.

Trust me, Jerry didn't turn $150m into $4b by being dumb. He knows exactly what he's doing.

Exactly. I mean it's not like Jerry has made foolish decisions in the past..................

Oh wait.

I think that if the trade market dries up today, Jerry releases Romo. I don't think he'll let it drag on, even though I think he should keep Romo and see what happens in the market.

Releasing Romo would be monumentally stupid.

Houston really wants that QB from NE and will wait it out. Tony is the also-ran in case the Texans lose out.

romo was probably the preferred one since they thought they just have to bid after his release.
now the situation is more complex but the texans have committed in some way by dumping literally their qb.
