One caveat, if we do hire Zimmer, hows his health? He battled health issues in Minny. If affected him and the team. Thats a real risk. I rather gamble with Rex. Or call Vrabel.

I am generally curious if all these people getting woodies over this potential hire realize he's not coached a game in 7 years and hasn't been a DC for nearly 15 years and there's likely some pretty good reasons for that.
I hear you . And like I said I am probably foolish for being slightly intrigued (no real woodie at least not fully stiff).
But guys have been away for long periods and then come back. Dick Vermeil for one. I think it was around 15 years for him. But I get your take for sure. I respect all opinions.

I’m not totally out on Wink. The Gents lead the league in TO’s last year as bad as they were. I can’t even name one player on their Defense now…

Keep in mind, that you are not going to attract many quality top shelve coordinators to work for a lame-duck coach.......you're just not.

Odd thing to say considering they are interviewing several highly regarded defensive coaches and have turned down two others who were interested in the job.

Who is it they can't hire? Give me a name.

Rex Ryan hasn't coached in 7 years and was relieved by the Bills before the 2016 season ended with Sean McDermitt taking them to the playoffs in 2017.

NO THANKS!

His daddy would roll over in his grave either laughing, or crying. I'll say something about all the Ryan's. They are player coaches that usually can get players to elevate their game.

Wow this is surprising, I'd love Rex Ryan.

He's exactly what we need... a tough 3-4 defense with Micah, good D tackle and LB play
I imagine Micah being like Suggs and just wrecking havoc

When your GM is also your primary marketing salesman, you get this kind of thinking. Instead of finding a great young defensive mind, you are instead looking for someone to sell to the fan base.

The lions DC Aaron Glenn is a great example of a very good young defensive mind. He did miracles with a very under-manned lions D last year. He’s under contract so we can’t get him. But he exemplifies what I would be looking for. An old has been like Zimmer or Rex Ryan are band-aids at best, re-treads at worst.

Again, why is a guy like Rex Ryan on an ESPN set? Because he’s better at talking than coaching.
IDK Bob...when we hired MM he had been away for a while and not anywhere to be seen on TV. At least Rex has been "around" the TV and presumably watching tape, games and talking with other coaches. That's at least something.

Didn't realize he was only 61 years old. Still old enough to sabotage MM and then be the head coach for up to a decade.
