You put Cassel on an average team and he wouldn't look any where as he does now.
Even though I'm not too keen on Romo today, he's light-years ahead of Cassel.
The fact is there will not be any competition for Romo in 2009. I don't see a backup out there who'll both be available and inexpensive enough to be a reasonable challenger to Romo next season. It's going to have to be some young kid who gets drafted this April and he won't be ready to challenge for at least a couple of years.
HOWEVER, that being said, I think there is one QB, who's still in prison who could both become a backup on this team and would at least represent a little pressure to Romo. I'm not big on this person's QB skills myself, but there are others who have been over the years.
